I really enjoyed this book, but I found this one not as good as the author's other books

The third in the Breadwinner series is not quite as good as the previous two. We leave Parvana behind and meet up again with her friend, Shauzia. Shauzia has herded sheep and is now in the Widow's Compound of the rufugee camp. She still dreams of going to France, but she realies that there is nothing for her in the camp and she must leave in order to make enough money to fulfill her dream. So she sets off with her dog, Jasper, and still disguised as a boy, heads into the city of Peshawar, Pakistan. She soon discovers that the sity is unforgiving and cruel and it is nearly impossible to get a job. But with a little luck and her skillful resources, she just might survive after all...and find a purpose.

I wish we could have finished the trilogy with our heroine, Parvana. I was curious about what had happened to Shauzia, and there was enough of a story to warrant a book, but it somehow just didn't have the same brilliance as the other two. It did give us a good look inside the world of the refugee camp, and the immense hardships that the refugees face. But it still wasn't as good as the other two.

I think I understand what the author was trying to show with this book. The author wanted us to see how hard it is for the people in the refugee camps and yet how much these people will go through to have even the smallest chance at a better life. The main character Shauzia however annoyed me so much. She was so rude and ungrateful, I understand she was still a child but I don't think that absolves some of her behavior. She seemed to constantly believe the world revolved around her despite seeing everyone else struggle. The woman at the camp tried to help her constantly and Shauzia just turned her nose up at it. After she broke her leg she stole the crutches even though she knew other people needed them. Though she wouldn't help other people at a cost to herself she was happy give away stuff that wasn't hers, a really lovely family bails her out of jail, takes her in, gives her food and shelter, they leave her alone for a day with one rule, dont answer the door, Shauzia ofcourse answers the door, letting dozens of people into their house on purpose, letting them eat all the food, letting them steal stuff and make a mess, yet again with no remorse for what she had done. I failed to enjoy this book, not because of bad writing or because I didnt appreciate the storyline, I disliked it because in a book like this where you are trying to get sympathy and understanding for a persons struggles I believe that person should be atleast slightly likeable. I will say they did try to turn it around at the end, last minute sbe did something decent, but it seemed like a last minute thought. I wouldn't reccomend this book.

I'm not as invested in Shauzia's story, but the author does introduce some thought provoking and heartbreaking situations.
