I was hoping for cool vampire fights, but mostly it was just traveling. Renfield was the most interesting character, with his strange ideas about lifeforce transference, but he is not a major part of the book. The different diaries and sources was a cool way of portraying the story, but it sometimes made it feel
more like telling than showing. I also got tired of all the manly man-ness and womanly woman-ness. Maybe the book is just dated. If I were you I’d just watch the Overly Sarcastic Productions YouTube video instead.

A good story pieced together through the writings of the main characters, and great as an audiobook. I didn't realize just how long it would be, and how suddenly it ends. Different time, different pacing.

Listened to the LibriVox version 2 dramatic reading with Dennis Sayers and Elizabeth Klett, etc.

If you’ve only seen the film, or a selection of the multiple influences created off the back of this book, this will be a surprising read. For some it will contradict what they supposed the book to be, but for me it exceed expectations. The moments of horror were incredibly haunting and tense, Stokers ominous prose captures an eerie sense of dread perfectly, and compliments that with complex feelings across a multitude of likeable characters. I did wish there was more direct contact with the Count, and it felt like the book came abruptly to an end, but apart from that I agree with those that hold this to such high regard in the world of horror.
