Honestly the premise from the start just did not sell me. It was ok how it played out from there but the whole book hinges on such an unlikely concept that I just wouldn’t be able to recommend it to anyone.

Aw this was a cutie read! It is giving just a little British stuffy vibes, but it was very sweet. I liked that it took place over 10 years, but that it didn't take me 10 years to read it because she only wrote the highlights of each year. Love me a good invisible string theory <3

Is this book cheesy? Absolutely. Is it also sickeningly cliche in parts? Of course. But it’s still a feel good, easy read that has you cringing and laughing along. It’s supposed to be a holiday read but I saw the readalong online and decided to join, nothing wrong with a bit of holiday spirit at the end of the summer months.
Sweet romcom. Loved the ending. A few of the characters were hard to like, but the story was a good one to read/listen to during the holidays.
I read this for the first time two years ago and gave it four stars. I read it again this year and I’ve changed it to five. Because I love love LOVE this book.
This book is about more than a girl instantly falling in love with a boy and then finding out her best friend starts dating him. I’ve never been a fan of insta-love, but that’s not enough to deter me. It’s about so much more than Jack and Laurie and whether they eventually find their way to each other.
It’s about friendship. Everyone needs a Sarah in their life, a fiercely loyal sister best friend who the sassy and bright cheerleader we all need.
It’s about growing up. Moving from the silly youthful nights into adulthood, from getting drunk off of cheap wine while watching bad films with your girlfriends to cocktail hour after work with your partners.
It’s about realizing who you are and, more importantly, taking the steps to become exactly who you want to be.
It’s about being in your twenties and making mistakes, ALOT of them, and learning how to go on from them.
It’s about falling in love and then suddenly, devastatingly, realizing that sometimes, it’s just not enough. And other times..it is.

There are many things in this book that just didn't add up for me..
In the beginning Laurie say's "I've described bus boy so much to Sarah I'm pretty sure we could draw a detailed picture"... soo that begs the question, how tf did Sarah not know that Jack was bus boy? Sure we can accept the benefit of the doubt maybe she just didn't know.
The pushing Sarah had for Jack and Laurie to be friends was off? I mean I know Laurie does not have that great of a poker face. How could her best friend not notice once in 4 years that she was always more tense or acted differently around Jack. Other then the obvious big elephant in the room I enjoyed Laurie and Sarah's relationship. Very ride or die and I thought that bond was well written.
I won't lie.. I was definitely team Oscar. Their bond seemed the most natural to me, evolving over time. Ups and downs that lets face it is life itself. I would loved to have this book maybe centered around moving on from someone you once thought was the love of your life. Because girls need a book like too, not just a convenient "oh they end up together" happy ending. Laurie's stubbornness about not moving to Belgium seemed like a half hearted attempt at breaking these two up so her main characters could get together. But wait Edinburgh which is 7 hours away instead of 4 is better? And the book cuts off?? We don't see how they grow together? So much frustration truthfully.
Jack is an asshole honestly. Sorry but not really. I think I'd cry if my man had any of his traits.. Jack's meltdown after his accident, saying things that I think are super negative and impactful to her.. but wait flowers fix everything right? Or the constant string of girlfriends that he jumps into one right after the next trying to what drown out Laurie? I am can promise no woman would find that redeemable. "Like aww you were trying not to think about me so you strung along at least 5 other women knowing you can't commit? I feel so loved." LOL or when Laurie finally finds happiness with Oscar he becomes a toddler throwing a tantrum because now she has someone she loves.
I am not by any means opposed to alcohol but the amount of times wine is mentioned I am surprised these characters could walk. I could smell the fumes wafting up from the pages. The only real healthy relationship I could find in this almost 400 page book was Luke and Sarah. 2 Stars for the 2 meaningful characters!

A fun and sweet story, more involved than say... Sophie Kinsella
