Moral of the story: Fanfiction can get out of control and a fake butt can save your life. So can skunks.

I really loved Willa and Alaric! Alaric is like an historical romance Indiana Jones - traveling the world and writing books about his adventures. But once his books made their way to England, they - and he - were romanticized. An unauthorized, very fictional play about his life swept the nation and Alaric returns to find he's England's #1 Heartthrob. He does not like this.

Willa and her best friend Lavinia are both stunning and sought after. They play the London Season like a game, being perfect prim and proper potential wives in front of society and laughing at dirty jokes to themselves when no one is looking.

Willa wants nothing to do with Lord Wilde, certain that he's an egotistical fraud. Alaric, though, realizes his feelings for Willa early on and dedicates himself to wooing her. I really like romances where the hero is the first to realize his feelings. His wooing includes gifting Willa a baby skunk, Sweetpea, who is an adorable side character and plays a very important role in the end.

There is a bit of a Shakespearean drama theme throughout the whole story, including a wicked villain and high stakes drama at the end.

I felt really connected to both Willa and Alaric. They felt evenly matched. All of the secondary characters, including Sweetpea, were delightful and I am excited to read more of the Wildes.

As always

Perfection as always. I love everything this woman writes and I have already bought the next one before I even finished it.

It was cute but nothing very special.

I was trying to summarize my feelings about this novel and the first word that came to mind was "fun." The whole thing from beginning to end was just so much fun. There were dozens of time I was laughing out loud from the crazy antics going on around the main characters. I was just truly dazzled by the whole thing. It wasn't overly adventurous...just two people falling in love at a house party...but nonetheless it was entertaining.

There was something truly alluring about Alaric. Say that five times fast, right? Some underlying drive of honor and devotion that made you fall in love with him. He in turn falls hard for Willa and I can't even really say that enough happened to support his feelings but he was just so utterly sweet about it! He wants Willa and he fights for her. There were moments I had a brief suspicion that maybe he was fighting too hard because Willa was adamant about her resistance, but most of the things that discouraged Willa were out of Alaric's control. He was such a fascinating character and I loved watching Willa drive him to distraction.

Willa...was everything. I loved the way Alaric broke down her character. That he knew she had layers to her personality with most sides hidden from the world. Willa is faithful to this facade that she presents to the world, but Alaric opens her eyes and shows her she owes it to no one to be anyone else but her true self. She is unique, she is spirited, and she is passionate. There was just a different feeling about Willa. She knew what was expected to be a proper lady, and she played the part perfectly, but deep down she was working on her own personal goals. She was constantly striving for her own happily ever after. She was strong in her convictions but Alaric of course came along and changed everything.

And I'm extremely excited to read the next book! Sometimes secondary plots can really drag down a historical romance, but that was not the case here. Actually the next two books are set up in this novel with the most basic details. They didn't deter from the main story at all which honestly was such an important details for me.

It was an engaging love story...one that I was excited about from the first page to that last. The romance is somewhat of a slow build but the journey made it worthwhile. Usually James is a hit and miss for me...some I love and some are just ok. Wilde in Love is a definite hit! I love the entire cast of characters, I love the dialogue, I even loved the unique Georgian setting! The historical romance has all you could ever want.

Meh, I'm starting to think Ms. James just isn't my thing. Plus the narrator for this audio version just doesn't do it for me.
I don't really have any real issues with either of their work, I just don't love it. Just can't get into it.
