3.5 stars. I should have enjoyed this more than I did. Willa Everett is no fainting miss. I loved that she was a social success but it was all a masquerade. I also liked that Alaric had some worldly experience. but....sometimes i had to reread dialogue because I couldn't follow the thread...and the castle's neighboring bog was sadly under used.
Still...the american sable was as a pet was cute, and danger of drowning in the moor scene well done. the danger from Alaric's ex went on just a tad too long for me, and some of the places Willa allowed Alaric to kiss her a tad unbelievable...but as a couple Alaric and Willa are an entertaining distraction.

Another fun read by Ms James. I look forward to reading more from this series.
The story was okay. I liked both the hero and heroine. The villain was entertainingly batshit crazy. The romance was a bit rushed. I also didn't like the implication (by way of the hero's brother) that a "real" man doesn't wear fancy clothing. It's fine if the older brother doesn't want to but it's unnecessary (and potentially harmful for men who do want to wear fancy clothes) to overgeneralize certain clothing as unmasculine.
