I absolutely loved the writing their first meeting was beautiful the dialogue really well done.

While the age gap didn't bother me the fact that Halley is literally his daughter's age rubbed me the wrong way also Tara's mother was like a reall mother to her so the fact that she starts hooking up with her ex husband is just... imagine sleeping with your mom's ex... like no.the way they so calmly reacted was also weird. I feel like this book is very well written but a lot of parts of it are givingšŸšØšŸ‘®šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸš“

So she lies and says she is 21. A 34 year old going to a party his daughter is supposed to be at and hooking up with a 21 year old is still creepy!!

They had no chemistry. And nothing going for them besides physical attraction. An impossible amount of bad things happen to Halley just so reed can save her. He acts like her father. She acts like a child.

And then he picks a random girl over his daughter. I hate a third act breakup and especially when years pass. And Don’t even get me started on the fostering and adoption of the newborns.

I wanted her to end up with Scotty.

What if the stranger you meet on a beach, with whom you feel an undeniable attraction, turns out to be your best friend’s father and is twice your age?

Halley’s life has been anything but easy. With an abusive father and an alcoholic mother, she’s never experienced what it’s like to be more than a burden to those around her. That changes when she meets him. He brings her a sense of joy and comfort that she has never known, even though they both understand that pursuing anything further would be crossing a line.

This novel is not just about a forbidden romance with an older man. It’s about finding stability and discovering one’s worth, especially for a young woman who has had to navigate life without parental support. The conclusion was particularly satisfying, tying everything together in a way that felt complete and heartfelt.

ā€œDo you like this song? - It’s my favorite.ā€
Straight-up emotional damage.

The burn? Slow. Torturous. And absolutely scorching. 🄵
Age gap? Irrelevant.

The tension? Torturous.
The spice? I ate it up and asked for seconds. 🫠

Their connection? Messy, magnetic and totally forbidden—and I couldn’t look away.

Jennifer Hartmann really said: ā€œHere, have some emotional ruin with a side of guilt.ā€ And I ate. šŸ½

Angsty, thought-provoking, so emotional - wow. I really loved how this story progresses over many years & really delves into the complexities of these two characters, Reed & Halley. The character growth, especially for Halley, is such a wonderful journey. And talk about a SLOW BURN! There was a point that I wasn't connecting with the characters and almost gave up but I am so glad I didn't. I think that while this is a bit drawn out, once that 50/60% hits, the story really picks up & I was very much in it.

The yearning is palpable. What I really loved here is the family dynamic between Reed, Halley, Tara & Whit. The known consequences of their relationship become more high-stakes as we get to know Tara & Whit, how more ingrained into the family Halley becomes... and when everything comes to a head, I love how this is handled. The Tara chapter is perfect. Listening to this in dual narration with Greyson Ash & Gideon Frost was a great way to bring this story to life. I really enjoyed Gideon's performance in particular, as I felt Reed's conflict.
