I've been meaning to read this for years after loving We Have Always Lived In The Castle. I felt like I had to read it in autumn or winter and somehow never got round to it until this year. I was surprised that I didn't find it as creepy as We Have Always Lived In The Castle but it was certainly still unsettling. The house is described so brilliantly and it felt like it was alive. I really like Jackson's writing and I thought the story explored the psychology of the characters (and Eleanor's emotional disturbance in particular) in such an interesting way.
