This is a well written text about a Palestinian journalist who tries to uncover the story of young Arab girl who was killed by Israeli soldiers in 1948. It contextualises the Palestinian struggle well and is an important and informative read for our current times. Shibli viscerally portrays the trauma that war and genocide can have on humans.kteq's review against another edition

It is the day to day of an Israeli soldier making drills and rounds on the Egyptian border with the Negev desert in 1949, after the Nakba. And, it’s the day to day, in the present time, of supremely traumatised Palestinian woman, living in an almost suspended reality, a painful non-existence, and who finds herself haunted by a gang rape that happened exactly 25 years before her being born, and that minor detail leads her to try and find more about it.
These two stories are connected by that minor detail, and describe with intense, painful and disturbing candidness the reality in which the Palestinians live today.
I felt disturbed for most of the reading, as the narrative and the way it’s written make it impossible not to feel as if you’re living it.
It’s unbelievable what the Palestinians have and have had to withstand. #freePalestine
