Very good read if you're a historical fan. Kinda slow in part, especially the beginning, but it's worth the time.

Fascinating history, not just of John Adams, but of the birth of the U.S.
slow-paced

One of our founding fathers who within my morals lived a much better life than most of the others. Now I just need to read a book on Abigail Adams because she sounds interesting.

"Griefs upon griefs! Disappointments upon disappointments. What then? This is a gay, merry world notwithstanding."

Amazing book about an fascinating remarkable man!

It's not often that a biography or history book grabs your attention after the first few pages. This one does. McCullough is a superb writer, and he benefits from the staggering amount of letters and personal journals that Adams (and Abagail) left behind. The result is a real page-turner, and an excellent account of the life of a great man and the politics of 18th century America. I now intend to read all of McCullough's books.

I can only say one word: "Wow!" If you've only seen the movie (Which was great in its own right) do yourself a favor and read this book. As with most thorough biographies, there are some slow spots and bumps along the road. It took me awhile to get through this one, but when I finished, it was well worth the journey. I am a huge fan of David McCullough, and this is definetly his best work. His able to establish Adams' place in our early history better than anyone has before him. Always overshadowed by those who's personalities were on the front line of the Revolution, McCullough is able to show just how invaluable Adams' work was behind the scenes. And of all the Founding Fathers, Adams seems to have sacrificed the most to the foundation of our country.

An amazing read, and one I highly recommend.

A moving and inspiring portrait capturing the raw essence of a truly remarkable man. Misunderstood by many contemporaries and forgotten by following generations, John Adams had an unparalleled influence on the founding of America.

p.s. and it won a Pulitzer, too!
informative slow-paced

Fantastic book. I really enjoy David McCullough's writing style. In my opinion, John Adams is an underappreciated part of our history. The work he accomplished before being elected President helped shape our nation. McCullough is able to capture Adams' special bond with Jefferson, and also his love for Abigail.
