Immediate Review: Unrealized potential

Myself, along with many others, have fallen in love with Ahsoka Tano since she was introduced in the Clone Wars animated series. Headstrong, funny, a fierce warrior and an overall incredibly likeable character had me excited for this novel. Unfortunately, it largely fails to deliver.

However, saying that, I am conflicted. For the first 280 or 290 pages of the book, this is a story that is just the daily life of Ahsoka after Order 66. She primarily interacts with two groups of people, the Fardis and the farmers on Raada, neither of which were entirely interesting. There was a child that seemed like an interesting plot point early on that is revisited later that ultimately amounts to nothing.

And I didn't feel invested in the crew on Raada whatsoever which is the vast majority of the novel. Throughout the first two thirds of the book, Ahsoka is trying to keep a low profile and stay unnoticed by posing as a mechanic which leads to expected trust issues from those around her as she isn't willing to divulge information about her past.

However, the last 60 or so pages take a turn that is great and helps to save the book somewhat, but overall, this was a fairly disappointing effort. Portraying day to day life can be interesting, but Johnston fails to accomplish it here. Couple that with the fact that, unlike Lost Stars, this actually feels like a surface level YA book and a fair few typos along the way, I can only recommend this to the most die hard of Ahsoka fans.

YYYYAAAASSSSS OMG THIS BOOK IS SO FUCKING GOOD HELLO. it took me longer than i had wanted it to bc i started it as an audiobook on vacation but it didn’t end up working blah blah blah ANYWAY. this book is a masterpiece it is so fucking good. it was also really sad but what do u expect with the timeline. i loved it so much no spoilers or anything but i never want to shut up about it

reread: ate so bad idk the audiobook was everything bc it was ashley

reading this reminded me why Ahsoka is one of my favourite Jedi

[SPOILERS: If you don't watch the Rebels series or you are not caught up to the most recent season, please do not read.] I became a fan of the character Ahsoka Tano when she was introduced in The Clone Wars. When that series ended, I was left wondering what happened to her. When she resurfaced in the series Rebels, I was ecstatic. I came across this book at New York Comic Con and started reading it immediately. I enjoyed it immensely and had a hard time putting it down for long. It did a great job answering my questions about what happened after Order 66 and how she ended up with the Rebels. The author does a great job capturing the personality and spirit of Ahsoka from the Clone War series. Rebels already touched on the Ahsoka/Darth Vader; formerly known as Snips/Skyguy, relationship. Now I just need to know if she ever meets Luke or Leia; as children or young adults, and pieces together who their parents are. Where was Ahsoka when the Rebels finally took down the Empire? I hope they write another book about her.

I liked it! It definitely fitted the bridge between the end of the clone wars series and rebels really well, and got her characterisation on point. 10/10 would read again.

“He had gone to Shmi Skywalker’s grave to apologize for losing her son” was not something I thought I needed

could i even consider myself a teacher if i didn’t take book recs from my students?

Great book if you like the character

The audiobook is really neat and well produced. The voice of Ahsoka reads the book which makes it worth checking out. The story isn’t anything too special and is really similar to the black spire book about galaxy’s edge. I’d say that book does similar themes but better, with a more memorable cast. Anyone outside of Ahsoka in this book is pretty forgettable, but there are a few moments that are worth reading. If you’re craving more clone wars content, check it out. If you don’t know much about the clone wars then you’re not missing much here.
