Ahsoka Tano, my favourite Togrutan Padawan survived so much and lived for so long, long enough to make her mark on Rebel history!

[b:Ahsoka|29749107|Ahsoka|E.K. Johnston|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1468595529s/29749107.jpg|50105366] was long overdue and much wanted in the Star Wars canon series of books. I couldn't have loved it more if I tried, though I may be biased with my great love of her from Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. There was so much more to her story and so much more that needed to be told and [a:E.K. Johnston|7418796|E.K. Johnston|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1442955730p2/7418796.jpg] did a wonderful job doing that!

"There's two kinds of family," Miara said after a moment. "There's the kind like me and Kaeden, where you get born in the right place to the right people and you're stuck with one another. If you're lucky, it turns out okay. The other kind of family is the kind you find."

I'm glad that Ahsoka found her family, finally, in the rebellion. I'm glad that she found Bail Organa and that she took her place in the fight! This book was action packed, giving a glimpse in to what Ahsoka's life was like post Clone Wars and pre Rebels. She learned what path she wanted to be on, something in the middle of the road not quite a Jedi and not quite a Rebel. She became legend!

She allowed herself a small smile at the idea that Imperial monotony was working to her advantage.

She was still the same Ahsoka, the same girl we'd come to know though time and war had changed her. She was alone, adrift, and yet she was still herself, or at least the way I had always imagined her. I think I was afraid that this telling of her life would be something that didn't feel right, or that didn't fit with the expectations I had based on how well I knew and loved the character. I was wrong - it was more than I could have ever dreamed!

The stories that called back to the Clone Wars, the search for her new crystals for her white lightsabers, it was something that was perfectly Ahsoka and fit perfectly with her. The crystals singing to her after a prophetic dream with Master Yoda one evening when she was searching for the right ways to save Kaeden, save her friends on Raada. The right way to protect others and help others who needed it.

Spoiler
"What am I going to call you, if I can't call you Ahsoka?" he asked. "You'll need a code name at the least, so you can deal with other operatives."

They looked out the viewport as Alderaan grew bigger and bigger. It really was a beautiful planet, though Ahsoka would always miss the whispering grass on Raada. Alderaan was blue and green, and a good staging point for galactic uprising. The center, where the thread of all their hopes connected.

"Fulcrum," she said. "You can call me Fulcrum."

"Then welcome to the Rebellion."

I am so happy and so grateful that I was able to witness the birth of a rebellion legend through this wonderful story!

Five enthusiastic stars and wishes and dreams for more wonderful titles that show us what else Ahsoka Tano did!

Great book to fill in gaps between the shows The Clone Wars and Rebels, for one of Star Wars’ greatest heroes: Ahsoka!

Why had it been her? She’d had that thought a hundred times since Order 66. Why had she survived? […] She asked the question so often because she knew the answer. She just hated facing it, as painful as it was. She’d survived because she had left. She had walked away.

She’d walked away from the Jedi and she’d walked away from Thabeska, and because of that she was alive, whether she deserved to be or not.

I had rated this book four stars in Spring 2021. I can’t remember why exactly, but it gets 4.75 stars from me now.

multiple things to cover!!

AHSOKA WAS A COMMANDER
This was really brought to light in this book. She was a Commander during the Clone Wars and you could tell so by how she interacted, strategized, and planned. Maybe part of it was the ex-Jedi past too, but she commanded and was commanding. Girlboss.

BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE
This book can’t be read without watching The Clone Wars. There are many hints to the show that weren’t explained (and I lowk loved that because it tested my own knowledge). You couldn’t exactly go in just knowing Ahsoka was Anakin’s Padawan. Makes it difficult for new readers, but it should make more people watch The Clone Wars anyways.

AHSOKA CAN LET GO
Literally. This is a huge component of her character: a massive trait of hers. It’s why her fight with Maul in TCW s7 was fantastic. Ahsoka, a character that is able to let go and move on, facing off with Maul: a character that has been driven by his hatred and past all of his life. In TCW finale, she drops her lightsabers at the memorial, and lets go. She ‘lets go’ in the book too, but I can’t remember what page.

KAEDEN & AHSOKA
I see what Johnston was trying to do between the two, but I wish it was more. The “I could kiss you” comment was good, and you could see their hinted dynamic if you squinted through the lines, but Ahsoka deserves someone. (There very well could be a part of this that is ‘the Jedi were just slaughtered and she’s on the run and just trying to survive’ but yolo).

GREY PARTS OF THE BOOK(?)
I loved these little snippets. I see some reviews didn’t like them because they were random and didn’t line up, but I loved all of them. They were a break. An interlude. One from Anakin’s POV, and one from Obi-Wan too? Killer. I loved them.

"ASHLA"
Just adding in that I love the easter egg(?) of Ahsoka using Ashla as her undercover name, as it was going to be her original name for The Clone Wars back when they were still storyboarding.

INQUISITOR FIGHT
Lastly, good for her that Ahsoka is such a girlboss that this fight was over quickly, but… it was over quickly. It’s only been a year since Order 66 so Vader has only had a year to train the Inquisitors, but.. man, this fight was quick? Had the Empire confirmed it was actually Ahsoka, Vader def could’ve sent someone strong enough to apprehend/kill her, but oh well. GIRLBOSS AHSOKA. BAMF.

in the end
I loved this book. It’s an easy read, but I ate it up. Shifting my 4✰ rating from Spring 2021 with no reasoning to a good 4.75✰ rating. Ahsoka Tano slays. Good for her.

I've read Star Wars books before, but it was High Republic stuff, so mostly unknown characters. My connection with the characters made this a bit difficult. Plus at times it seems like it was reaching to reference things from Clone Wars. But I did enjoy it. It helped explain a bit more about Ahsokas journey between Order 66 to Rebels, which was great

And I'm going to love anything with the character. I mean, I have an Ahsoka tattoo

A great addition to Star Wars canon. If you like the character of Ahsoka you will love this book. Also it's a very fast read.
