Yet another member of the Oxford Set finds his happily ever after in this new, gorgeous book by Ava Bond. This time is Baronet Verne’s turn. Outwardly stern and unfeeling, in reality he’s sweet and hurt and so much in love! And I simply adored him, loved that he was so protective of Olympe even if she didn’t deserve it… Because yes, I must confess that I didn’t like Olympe very much. Normally I enjoy a strong heroine who wants to be independent and pursue her own goals, but I found her stubborn and selfish and uncaring of Verne’s and anyone’s feelings. Yes, of course she changes, but too late for my taste. And yes, in the past they were both very young, but this is not an excuse for her behavior. But I’m a firm believer in the fact that you don’t necessarily have to love all the characters to enjoy a book, so I enjoyed this one quite a lot, even more than the previous one. There’s steam and romance and a spy story that is not excessively intricate: a thoroughly perfect mix in my opinion. So, five stars are well earned.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
