I really liked this book. I'm intrigued. I liked Ethan and I liked Nara. I must admit that I was initially turned off by her name. I thought it was much too unique to be realistic, but it grew on me.
There were times and I was going "stop 'helping', it's not working!" I just wanted to reach in and slap some sense into her.
And erasing the messages from her dad. I got up and yelled like a crazy person, "what are you doing!" Honestly I couldn't understand why she didn't just talk with him, even if it was to cuss him out.
Ethan was what kept me glued to this book. I loved his character! He was sweet, protective, and strong without being weird. He let her make her own decisions even if he didn't always agree. Also, I can't wait to see what he turnes out to be. How it's going to disrupt their relationship. Good book, minor mistakes here and there, but it didn't detract from the overall story. Sometimes I got confused, and had to re-read a particular part. It wasn't so bad, and I definitely want to continue the series.

What can I say? Brightest Kind of Darkness is one of the most unique and beautifully written books I've read in a very long while. I'm a sucker for stories revolving around fate and destiny and, on a highly philosophical level, if either can be altered. I've read shelves full of books on the subject, but few capture the essence quite so perfectly.
Nara is in possession of a unique talent: she sees the next day of her life, dawn until dusk, every night in her dreams. This skill has allowed her to be Queen Goalie of the girls' soccer team, an exceptional student, and allows her to prepare for all the drama that comes from being a teenage girl. She avoided situations that might cause her discomfort, but she had never tried to interfere with fate until the day she dreams something that could possibly kill several students at her school...and thus begins the rollercoaster that loops, twists, and turns you on your head for the rest of the ride.
Ethan, the all too misunderstood bad-boy, and Nara share something in common. They both have a hero complex, a need to save the world. Wait, wait, wait...I know what you're going to say if you've already read Brightest Kind of Darkness. But consider for one moment what the world might represent. To one person, it might be the literal meaning, everyone and everything. To another, the world might be a single person. While Nara dreams of saving all her friends and family from harm, Ethan strives to keep Nara safe from Fate. And the more she alters fate, the more she has to fear from Fate.
Ethan has a curse. He absorbs people's negative energy, filling his nights with dreams of monsters and blood. But once he moved to Nara's little town, Ethan's once dark world lightens. He and Nara have a plan and are making Fate their bitch. If only Fate would just shrivel up and die, life would be much easier, but then the story would suck.
I loved this story for so many reasons. Nara is a kick-ass girl, who always attempts to do the right thing, even if it's completely wrong. She's loyal to her family and friends, with one exception and I'm not sure her father deserves her loyalty, so I'm completely fine with Nara giving him a one-fingered salute and never looking back - although, I should mention, Nara's dad may redeem himself in Lucid. We'll see. Ethan's everything Nara deserves. He's kind, trustworthy, and he loves her. Not to mention, I wanted to fall into his deep blue eyes every time he touched Nara.
I also love the mythology woven into the story. For some reason, I have a somewhat sick fascination with the lore behind Ravens. They've been known to do everything from predict the weather to being carriers of death. They are said to be highly intelligent, even trainable. Authors across time have used Ravens to depict different aspects in their books. Shakespeare used Ravens as messengers, Edgar Allen Poe's alludes to the birds in relations of love, loss, and despair in one of his most famous works, simply titled The Raven. The predatory birds have been accused of being witches' familiars. For more Raven Lore, click the link and learn some interesting facts. The day can't be over until you learn something new, so go do it...well, when you're done with this review.
And, as I've already mentioned, I love the philosophy and all the what-ifs surrounding Fate. Is there such a thing as fate? If so, can fate be altered? If fate is altered, does fate still extract its revenge? Does the balance of nature shift, demanding consequences? Yeah, a little to deep for a silly little book review, but this one left me questioning life in general and when a books does that, it's a keeper!

*Contains Spoilers* An interesting, twisting tale of supernatural taken to a different level than most. It was not your typical vampires, werewolves and such, this book dealt with dreams and predicting the future, and even brought up the concept of fate. I think it was interesting to see all of this come together in the book. I am intrigued to find out if Ethan is some kind of angel. The fact that the tattoo is a feather makes me think that he is, as well as power to take away the negative energy from others. However, the Ravens confuse me a little bit. I don't exactly see yet how the Raven's fit in with him being an angel, if that is indeed the case. All in all, an exciting read and I look forward to the next book. This was actually a free nook book!
I have often lamented that finding a quality book among the drifts of self-published e-books is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. I am happy to report that I have found one of those elusive needles—and it is crafted of solid gold (which is very impractical for a needle, but explains why it blended in with the hay so well.). I was turned onto this book by an interview and contest on Ilona Andrews blog, and as it was $.99 for the e-book I decided to take a flyer on it. I am SO glad that I did. It is books like this that give me hope that the end-product of and independently published work CAN be just as good as one that went through the publish-house procedure. And while it may be rarer, such gems are worth searching for.
I inhaled Brightest Kind of Darkness in a single day because I simply could not put it down. Deceivingly simple in its underpinnings of a high school setting, this book weaves both light and shadows into a twisting plot that far from feeling contrived remains organic in its creation, and yet still leaves ample room for surprise twists and turns that left me guessing. Exploring a completely new take on paranormal fiction Ms. Michelle creates a truly layered story that, while firmly anchored in the young adult realm and time-scope, reaches beyond age and setting borders to be an exciting a touching tale for all ages. It is a superb example of originality in a genre that I feel is sometimes too bogged-down in recycled ideas and well-trod tropes. Many entries that have come out of the exploding young adult genre today are either trite in trying to capture the audience of a well-received book (Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, etc.) or so juvenile as to only really apply to their click market. Brightest Kind of Darkness is a bird of a very different feather.
I loved getting to know the characters in this book. Full of both strength and vulnerability, I felt Ms. Michelle struck a good balance, making the characters feel real. The main protagonists in this book truly breathed for me. If I could give any criticism, it would be that the secondary characters in this story felt a bit flat. Very few of them do I feel scratched the surface of who they could be; however the story and main characters more than made up the slack. I hope that in further volumes I will get to see a bit more deeply into additional characters and see how they affect and interact with the intricate world that was created.
This book had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation and enjoying every second of it. From the starting gate to the ending I can truly say I did not see coming…I wouldn’t change a thing. This series is going on my must-buy list, and I am eagerly anticipating the release of the next volume. I want to know what happens in this story and to be able to spend more time with the characters I have gotten to know and love.
This is a five star book and a new author to keep an eye on in order to see a rising star in action.

Brightest Kind of Darkness is definitely the kind of book that you want to curl up in bed with on a stormy winter night... or any night really. It doesn't really matter, because either way, you'll step away with a great feeling of: heart-warming fuzziness and an intriguing shock worthy end that you wont see coming.
Which, will naturally. Leave you reeling for more.
P.T Michelle draws you into the pages of Brightest Kind of Darkness with mysterious events, strong, lovable characters, as well as ones you just want to punch the daylights out of.
Nara was a great character, I think it would seriously suck having seen your whole day in dreams, and although this may make you think that it will be a very predictable read... it's not. Watching Nara struggle with her diminishing powers was great.
I was so wrapped up in the feelings this story evoked that I was overjoyed and even scared at times for Nara, gripping my kindle hoping that everything would be okay in the end.
After Nara stops following the rules and stops a bombing, fate decides to hit her hard. One of the good things that comes of this is: Ethan.
That boy sure is yummy! Not only does he have the yummy factor down, he is so sweet and kind, making me want to give him a great big hug, yet manages to effortlessly pull off the sexy bad-ass card at the same time.
Sign me up for a slice of him!
Disasters, impending doom, mysterious powers, family secrets, an action packed grip to your seat ending, with a very delicious boy. If you haven't read Brightest Kind of Darkness yet... DO IT! You know you want to! (especially while its cheap on amazon - link above!)
I'm DYING to find out what happens next - especially with Ethan, Daddy dearest and lots of other delicious events that unfolded right near the end.
Some questions where answered, but there are plenty more to discover! P.T Michelle you did an AMAZING job.

I had really high expectations for this book and it did not disappoint! I thought this book was very well written and very thought out. I loved both Ethan and Nara and I thought that it was definitely interesting with the whole idea of Nara dreaming her day the night before. I could totally understand why she was so obsessed with helping other people because really how could you not help? I felt that this book really stood out because the characters were fully fleshed out. I loved that Nara called in the bomb threat and that she tried so hard to help Lainey out. Lainey was the only character that I really struggled to like. She was supposed to be Nara's best friend but she was totally crazy and didn't try to help Nara out at all. I know she didn't understand but seriously? Not only did she chase after the guy that Nara liked but then she let everyone else rule her and was totally cruel to Nara. In the end I think she got what she deserved with Jared and Sophia cheating on her. That probably sounds terrible but karma got that girl! I loved that Ethan wanted to do everything possible to protect Nara but I wished we could see more emotion from him. The only thing that prevented me from giving this 5 stars was the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger. I very much dislike cliffhangers and even though I had the sequel it still felt a little disconnected between the end of this book and the beginning of the next. The ending just felt abrupt.
