Mysterious, sexy and definitely addictive! You will never regret reading this book!

What would you do if you could dream what will happen the next day?

Brightest Kind of Darkness is such a big hit for me just for the fact that the story was so good! I know it’s not that original but it was executed with utmost distinction that it stands out to any story you can compare it to. The story started off with Nara who is nothing but average unless you call “dreaming of what will happen the next day” normal, who called in a bomb threat. Talk about EXCITEMENT! I was gasping at the start. The first chapter left me mystified and hanging that I really wanted to read more. It goes along with the next chapters which was totally addicting!

Along with a great story comes with great characters. I’m not going to deny it but I’m totally Team Ethan, well not that there’s any other Team to side on but I really love him. I bet you want to know why? Well I have some quotes for you to decide. PS. It involves some kissing!

“If you smiled like that more often, you’d have the girls crawling all over you. On second thought, no smiling allowed.” I sounded jealous… and probably corny, but I didn’t care. Stepping close, Ethan grasped a lock of my hair. “You’re the only one who makes me smile like this, Nara.”
Ethan’s lips met mine in the barest of kisses, tentative, but full of intense promise. I pressed my lips to his, hoping to show him how much I wanted this. He unclasped my fingers from his jacket, then lowered my hands to his waist. When I leaned against him, his arm folded tight around me and a shudder rippled through him. I wanted to weep for his dark loneliness.”
There was so much I wanted to say to him. “Ethan, this is just so hard−“

He suddenly stepped so close that I tensed, even as my insides skittered in excitement. “I want to touch you, Nara, but I can’t,” he said in a low, tortured tone. “I want to kiss you, but I can’t. All I can do is watch you from a distance and it’s killing me.”

If these quotes don’t strike some curiosity to you I don’t know what will! Ethan is really adorable and with that I think I can say that you should read this so that you could meet Ethan! On the other hand Nara is a teenager full of angst. Who could blame her? Her father left her mother for no reason. You can definitely relate to her character.

With all that has been said, I think my only problem with this book is the transition. It was really fast, I know some may say it’s not but for me it is. One moment you’re reading into a scene then suddenly you realize that you’re in a different scene already.

Overall, I recommend The Brightest Kind of Darkness. It was a fun experience reading this book, if you haven’t read this book you really have to read it! Just so you could meet Ethan! Story wise like I said in the opening it’s not that original but it was executed properly and it’s a big win. GET IT NOW!

I liked this book far more than I thought I would. I got it for free from amazon kindle. The writing was just adequate but the plot was good and the characters were great:well drawn, realistic and likable. It engaged my emotions and left me ready to know more. Bring on the next one!

Great characters and plot. I have two main complaints:
1. poor editing - I noticed many, many grammatical/mechanical errors throughout the book.
2. some of the dream sequences were a little convoluted.

But I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment!

Not really spoilers but there is a tiny spoiler at the end of this. Read with caution. Warning ⚠️: a shit ton of swearing (I legitimately got angry)

Nara is yet another normal but not really normal not special but really fucking special teenager. She has high school to push through, soccer to play, a father who left the family to hate, a mother who blatantly ignores her to ignore, tests to take, dumb friends to tolarete, classic mean girls to hate on... and see her future in her dreams.
Until one day she meets a boy, and not just any boy! The hottest, most mysterious type of dark hair and pretty eyes, with good manners who likes animals and for some reason is a total loner and “weirdo”, according to the whole school. Also he has a bad boy name. His name is Ethan. How many times did you experience an orgasm while reading this last paragraph?
Ok so one day he touches her and steals her clairvoyant dreams and she’s ok with it as long as she can touch him. That’s fine I guess? I mean her friends (I mean, only friend) can die and she’d prefer to be kissed by a slobbery weirdo than predict it?
Apparently her dad wants to get in the picture but doesn’t really? Her aunt is weird. Her mom is boring. Her best friend is dumb. Her boyfriend has no other interest than being with his querida and looking mysterious.. and Nara herself is so bland. Her only goal in life seems to be to establish physical contact with her significant other. Oh, and soccer which isn’t something that she’s good at, she just dreams what to do and does it. For how long has she been a goalie? Did it really take one practice with Ethan to learn how to catch a ball properly? Also school apparently has no importance. Throughout most of the book they had a group history project, which I’m pretty sure they didn’t even start. For the entirety of my own high school career: I can’t relate.

I liked the writing, 70% of it was fantastic.
The plot was ok.. I guess.
The characters were one dimensional and BORING, even the girl with special abilities.
The character development was non existent.
The relationships were bland and hanging on a hair..

Honestly this book was overall ok, I don’t regret finishing it.. it did have potential, but it was badly executed. How the fuck are people liking it so much?? Cuz the love interest was a hot guy? No 16 or 17 year old guy could ever be a Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp, so STOP PORTRAYING THEM AS SUCH. GIVE THEM PIMPLES, GIVE THEM UNIBROWS, GIVE THEM MORNING WOOD, GIVE THEM BAD BREATH, GIVE THEM BEER BELLIES.

AND FOR GODS SAKE MAKE YOUR CHARACTERS EAT OR SLEEP OR USE THE RESTROOM.

My point: no realism whatsoever. And it’s not only this book, it’s YA in general. But this story truly was a nightmare. The only thing missing is a love triangle.

Also why is Fate a mean person?

And I kind of get the love thing but WHY WOULD YOU LET SOME RANDOM AF DUDE TAKE YOUR CLAIRVOYANT DREAMS FOR YOU? IS DICK SO FUCKING IMPORTANT? Can’t you just find.. hm, Idk, a PERSON YOU’VE ACTUALLY HAD A CONVERSATION WITH TO CRUSH ON? Not some stranger who charmed you by stealing, I mean rescuing, a presumably abused dog? CALL THE COPs, you live in the USA, not Eastern Europe.
Also stop putting mean girls with perfect outsides and rotten personalities. That’s just plain lazy.

Review:
Plot idea: 3/5

Character development: 1/5
Romance: 1/5
Relationships: 1/5
Writing: 5/5

I’m giving it a 1.5-2 Stars out of 5 cause of the idea and writing in some places. But I will not be picking up any other of Michelle’s books. Sorry.

This book made me smile a lot...which seems weird when it has such dark spots. But Ethan and Nara made me smile. It was a different concept for me, and I found it refreshing...both Nara's and Ethan's "gifts" or whatever. There are so many questions I want answered, so I sincerely hope the next books don't take long...impatient much? Yeah, goodness...can't describe it, so this review is not going to be helpful to you whatsoever. It was different. Nara and Ethan are adorable together. Lots of conflict...didn't feel too much like conflict just for the sake of conflict which has been bothering me lately....yeah. Lovely Lenore, so succinct and clear...

REREAD: OK, a few years later and I finally get back to this series. I think I'm upgrading it to 4.5 stars, it really was just enjoyable. An interesting mythos, great characters, good action, delicious side romance. Yup, can't wait to finally read the next books.

This is the second time I've read this book, and it's even better the first time (that may be because I'm older and more experienced, but ehh whatever!). This book is ah-mazing, with just the perfect mix of romance, mystery, paranormal activity, danger, excitement and adventure. And, oh yeah, boy oh boy does it include all of those things!

To be honest, there's nothing about this book that really stands out to me about this book other than the overall amazingness of it. I mean normally, theres' something that just grips me and keeps me reading and once I finish I can say - "the writing was so good, it had me gripped from page one!" "LOVED the story, it was such a page turner!" "The character - OHEMGEE - they had me up until 3 am just DYING!" - but with this book there is no such line.

The writing is pretty flawless - it's refreshing to occasionally find a book with little to no spelling and grammatical errors *eye roll* - but yet not sophisticated enough that it takes 90% of your brain to understand! The writing is simple and suits the story well, having quite a lot of 'flow' (i'm finally starting to work out what 'flow' is) and yet it's still kind of raw and rough.

The characters are well developed, yet not shown totally. There's more than one side (YAY!) and there's mystery shrouding the characters. I love it when you watch discoveries that the characters share about themselves as opposed to just discoveries they make about their situations and 'supernatural abilities' and the like. It's nice!

So an all-round good report! Nothing that really stood out, and to be honest this was one of those book I kind of forgot about, but it's a nice read that's gorgeous and I love! It's perfect for when you're in a curious mood and ready to go on an adventure without having to make too many discoveries ;)

I don't like books where the main character can see the future, but i loved this book. One of my top five favorite books.

Staple in my childhood, hopefully I'll reread it one day.

OMG! That's the only way to describe this book in a good way of course. I NEED to find out what happens, I'm not sure what's really going on but that is what makes me love it so much! There are a few points that I'm just like WOW. This was a def page turner I wanted to figure it out so badly lol

I don't have the time to explain all the little nuances that made this one of the worst books I've ever read. I don't recommend it. I spent 99 cents on this, and it was a complete waste of money.
