The Dragonet Prophecy is a fun MG read for kids who like fantasy, dragons, and battles. My daughter (age 8) liked the graphic novel version, but the regular novel was too long and complex for her. We will revisit later when she’s older. It feels more suitable for children ages 10+.

Themes of kindness, friendship, family (found and born)

A magical prophecy, some dragon kids stumbling through an intertribal war, plenty of adventure, violence and questing with heavy worldbuilding and vibrant characters.

📖
This was a fun and quick read. I had a good time. The different dragon clans/wings were very interesting. I thought the characters were fun, the plot was predictable, and I liked the writing style for a middle-reader book.

This was a fairly decent middle grade fantasy. I didn't enjoy it as much as I have some other middle grade sci fi/fantasy books I've read in recent years, but then again I'm also definitely not the target audience here and I know this would have been something I enjoyed immensely as a kid. It has a similar level of violence to the Warriors series (which is unsurprising, as the author was part of the Erin Hunter team), and sets the tone of the book pretty well right from the prologue. I am interested to see where this series goes.

The characters were lovable, well-developed, amusing, and occasionally sassily relatable. The mood was well-written and engaging. The writing was good, flowing smoothly, and pleasant. The plot was captivating and easy to follow, and the plot surprise was brilliantly executed.
Recommend for dragon lovers.
