I’m older than the target audience but it still held my attention. It does get violent at times, and there are descriptions of war and death, so it’s not for all ages. I couldn’t put it down because I had to know what would happen next. I like the way the author describes the dragons vividly, including their body language and eye color, as it helps me visualize the story clearly.
Moderate: Death, Violence, Xenophobia, Trafficking, War, Animal cruelty, Blood, Body horror, Emotional abuse, Fire/Fire injury, Injury/Injury detail, Kidnapping, Murder, Physical abuse, Torture, Ableism, Animal death, Confinement, Abandonment, Toxic relationship, Classism, Gore, and Suicide

The book is prefaced with the in-depth NightWing Guide To The Dragons Of Pyrrhia, which does a good job of establishing the world-building and key players in the story, and as a big fan of maps I was happy to see the double-page spread that greeted me when I first opened the cover. The pacing of the story is also delightfully jarring at times. The prologue immediately dives into the action and lets you know that war does nothing but create a body count. No sooner than we are introduced to the prophecy does one of the leading players in the war throw a wrench in the resistance's plans by committing volatile (and graphic) murder. The blows just keep coming from there. No details spared.

I picked up this book expecting Artimis Fowel, Percy Jackson level and while it did have a lot of those younger elements it also odd how dark this book got at some points. I feel as if they had been humans instead of dragons there is no way they would have been able to publish this as anything but YA or adult. Example:
