Sacrificial Version by Jeremy Thompson

Horror that embraces the reader!

I was sought to read Thompson's story within this great horror collection, so the first one that I read was Sacrificial Version, and I was not disappointed. Thompson has a way with words that embrace the reader, and invite the reader for more. This story definitely fits well into this collection. I find the calming of the horror the day after, both disturbing, and yet very intriguing. "We dine on roast boarilla, ingesting the flesh of our enemies, while putting our loved ones to rest..." is something that stands out dramatically. This short was wonderfully written, and in aspects, I was rolling my eyes with the narrator (not in a bad way). Now, that's something.
