Okay, I think maybe Sutanto books aren't really for me. I really enjoyed DIAL A FOR AUNTIES, but the other two books of hers I've read are just too uncomfortable for me. It's hard to put my finger on what pushes it over the line, because I do enjoy a tense thriller sometimes, but maybe it's that Sutanto puts her characters in absolutely the most humiliating circumstances I can even imagine. The vicarious embarrassment is just too much.

The audiobook narrator, Eunice Wong, was EXCELLENT. She did a great job capturing that teenage tone of voice for swooning or panicking or worrying or being goofy. But the story made me so uncomfortable I switched over to the print book so I could skim through it faster and get through the uncomfortable parts.

Content warning for intimate partner violence and lots and LOTS of racism.
