Appreciated a lot of the themes but the writing and slow pace made it hard for me to connect with the story. I found the main characters immature and self-centered for most of the book.

 - Ow, my heart! That's it, that's the review.
- Okay, not really. But whew. Hashimoto really puts readers through the queer longing and angst wringer with this one.
- I think a big reason why A WORLD BETWEEN hit me so hard is that I'm roughly the same age as the characters. I was in college in 2004, and though I wasn't out at the time (even to myself) I saw a lot of my friends go through these things (really, like, exactly), plus the references to past pop culture and news items felt VERY LOUD, haha. Following Eleanor and Leena as they grew up and together and apart was like following lives that ran parallel to my own.
- Reader be warned, this is one of those books where everyone makes some bad decisions and sometimes you don't like the characters, but somehow you still want to hug them close and help them figure it out.
