Loved this book! How love shows thru the cooking of these strong willed women. All four coming from different backgrounds and childhood, how a war and their love for food United them.

This is yet another WWII story, OR IS IT?! I loved this book. I loved the way that I was able to sit back and watch (read) as 4 women formed a bond that starts with a cooking competition.

All 4 women were well developed characters, even if it did take a minute or two to really get invested in the story. Once I was there, I was not able to put this book down.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing - Ballentine Books for this advanced readers copy. This book is due to release in February 2021.

The Kitchen Front is such a delightful read!
The setting of this novel is England during WW2. A cooking competition takes place in an effort to bring morale to the home front, the winner will win the co- presenter spot at the “Kitchen Front.” There are three rounds to the competition and each contestant must use ingredients available to them by their rations.

We follow four very different female competitors. Audrey is a war widow with three sons at risk of losing her home. Lady Gwendolyn is a social climber in an abusive marriage. Nell is the shy maid, and Zelda is the head chef at Finley manor who hides her unplanned pregnancy.

We follow each of these women in alternating chapters as we get to know their different personalities. Each have their reasons and motivations for winning this coveted award. The dialogue among the women is richly done and engaging. They are mostly strangers to each other but the power of friendship brings them together.

I enjoyed this historical fiction and was impressed with the development of each character, their dramas and weaknesses and triumphs. I found the talk of the recipes using such unusual food items intriguing.

Such a sweet story and I loved the characters. Not your average WWII historical fiction novel so it was nice to have a change.
