If you’ve read enough Frieda McFadden books you can probably guess the twists as soon as the story is set up, but it was still entertaining! One of the more enjoyable books imo (and the Tenant). Not a literary masterpiece but you already knew that. Worth a read.

My flabbers have been gasted!
This book was not what I expected at all - I had a really good time on this rollercoaster of a book.
If you love plot twists and thrillers this is a book for you.

I very rarely give Freida anything but 5 stars as I always enjoy her books thoroughly.

The Housemaid follows Millie, an ex con living out of her car desperate for work and Nina, a seemingly unhinged housewife who lives a life of luxury thanks to her handsome husband Andy.

We follow Millie's journey as she is continually punished and betrayed by Nina and the seedy underbelly of the household she has entered into eventually comes to the fore.

The plot was good for this and I definitely didn't see the twist going how it did. The links to abuse in the story gave a believable arc for the connected characters and the gear shift from part 1 to part 2 was great and entirely in keeping with the plot (which isn't always the case with major twists in books!). The characters were fully developed and believable and I love how no one comes out of the book as true victor or victim but an amalgam of both.

I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series in due course and of course the movie when it comes out.

I can't put it down, I was new to thrillers and I absolutely loved it.

*Contains Spoilers*

The Housemaid kept me engaged with its pacing and twists. The story led me to believe one thing, only to surprise me with a twist—though it wasn’t as shocking as I’d hoped. I appreciated the tension and how it held my attention throughout. However, the ending stretched believability, particularly the coincidence of the investigator’s daughter being the ex-fiancée. That part felt forced and took me out of the story a bit.

Overall, I’m glad I read it and enjoyed the ride, but I’m unsure if I’ll continue with the series. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with twists, this is worth a try!
