This was such a bummer cause the writing was gorgeous and I liked a lot of the more gothic/surreal elements, but in the end I just didn’t feel like the story was there.

This book was honestly kind of repulsive and otherwise fell flat for me. Also this author needs to be banned from describing food and using the word "bloat" so often-- it actually became disgusting after a while.

this book had a lot of potential in that i felt as though i was picking up on themes of race, privilege, power, & specifically generational black trauma through magnolia’s character that i was really interested in exploring deeper as the novel progressed. but unfortunately after finishing the book i felt that the author left many things unresolved. this book can best be described as an amalgamation of half-baked thoughts tbh. interesting read but i think i liked the concept more than the actual book
