It feels wrong to rate this book, given how impactful it is. I cannot put into words how important it is to read this book, and a simple summarization/review feels redundant compared to the content. Khaled Hosseini first moved me with their book, Kite Runner, but A Thousand Splendid Suns takes the cake.

I think it was a challenging, rather bleak read, with a lot of emotional weight and unforgettable female characters, full of sisterhood, love, and conviction. I'm surprised that the bleak undercurrent that drags them down never completely breaks them; they always remain themselves until the very end.
