I honestly hesitated between 1 & 1.5 (and I hate giving bad reviews)

This book… what happened ?!
Anna is a 26 year old woman acting like she’s 12. Her whole personality comes from movie quotes. She has no emotional intelligence and is desperately waiting for her boss (Craig) to wake up and love her, even though they haven’t spoken to each other in 2 years. She purposefully ignores all red flags and her best friends (of 4 months?!?) advice and warnings.

I appreciate women in STEM and this book had a lot of potential. She could’ve been portrayed as a total badass, rocking the cosmetics world, but it just flopped for me. I wish we could write about women who are not walking stereotypes in the industry. Being a nerd could be cute, but an entire personality around Star Wars, Star Trek and the muppets ? No thanks, I’ll pass.

Spoiler alert
- there is NO spice
- this is not the slow burn you think you’re about to experience
- I cringed multiple times

What I liked best about this book was the concentration on Anna’s job as a cosmetic chemist and all the STEM concentrations, and the references to nerdy pop culture icons like Star Wars and LOTR. Anna also has a Grandpa who tells groan-inducing one-liners that are actually very charming.

. If you can suspend your disbelief with some of Anna’s actions and just go with it, you’ll enjoy this affordable, light and easy read.

This read like a YA romance and if I was interested in or liked YA romance then I’d pick up a book categorized as such.

This was hands down the *worst* narration I’ve ever endured for the sake of a story. The narrators cadence was stilted, unnatural, and grating.

The awful narration combined with the frustratingly immature female lead and juvenile writing made this a mediocre read/listen.

Little to no spice but a great, light read!
