'Cicada' is a visual masterpiece that clearly and articulately describes the experience of working in an environment as a minority. I continue to be stunned by the beauty, complexity, and clarity of Tan's work. It is beyond impressive, his ability to create works that can so deeply speak to kids and adults alike and with such high quality of craftsmanship. I would highly recommend this book.

this books is kinda depressing. the alienation cicada feels genuinely made me want to cry but i love the use of colour at the end to show a brighter ending to cicada's torment.
i love the way it's written like cicada has just learnt the english language, and it's very endearing to see them win against the system that has been oppressing cicada for years.
i will say that my views of insects are tainted from kafka's metamorphosis, so i'd like to think cicada is gregor samsa if he made it to work on time after his transformation.
