Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fast but still very good queer book.

Luckily this good though! It doesn't really have any of the things I like about grease, but it's a cute fun ya romance with solid principles and I enjoyed it.

I wouldn't call this lighthearted since the premise is built on the family staying in NC to help Ollie's aunt who's dying of cancer... but it's as lighthearted as it can be while also handling that plot.
it took me a bit but I ended up loving all the characters. and the drama felt pretty realistic compared to others.
while there were some times I laughed I wouldn't call it a romcom, I'd go more with coming of age & romance with a side of grief & coming out. personally, I felt it was done very well & I appreciated that Ollie didn't put any pressure on Will to come out nor did Laura with what's her face (lmao I forgot). they just wanted something from the other.
while this is a singular POV, I felt all the conversations Ollie had with ppl were well done and helped us understand the other person (though I would have liked a follow-up to the "you think I'm happy about this?" conversation with Ollie's mother). wow this is a short book I like how certain topics were explored like fat phobia, biphobia, homophobia, and how different people handle their grief. it wasn't super in-depth but I thought it was well done. the fights that resulted felt realistic and I was happy to see the characters stand up for themselves and others. it would have been cool to have it explored more but what was done was good imo.
personally, I like this better than the original Grease 🤭🤭 though I could do without the modern day references. there weren't a ton but they stuck out to me but they may not bother everyone & if they do, there aren't that many so maybe you can overlook them like I did.
anyways, def recommend!

I did really want to punch Will multiple times in the beginning but I ended up liking him after a bit. Ollie was great and I liked how he was standing up for himself and all that good stuff (and how he stopped letting Will get away with stuff for a measly apology).
Overall it was good and I liked (most of) the characters :)
