I admit I like this storyline better than the original Shatter Me series. It’s still very angst-driven, so there’s not a lot that is happening but then all of a sudden it seems like everything is crumbing and happening all at once. Rosie was such a sad character. Manipulated and starved to be a tool, made into an experiment different from their previous methods.
James is very Kenji-core and that makes me incredibly happy because he was the only character I liked in the original series especially towards the end of the last series.
I’ll be interested in seeing how this new series plays out as part of the New Republic.

I found myself mainly liking it due to the nostalgia and getting to see characters from the original series as adults.

I was initially unsure on how I would feel about an older James story, but I loved him! He’s cleverly written to be such a lovely mix of all of the people who helped to bring him up. From Warner’s cold calculation, Kenji’s humour, Juliette’s caring nature to Adam’s protectiveness. You could really get a feel for each of these traits throughout the book.
Though it was possibly a lot shorter than I was hoping, it was an interesting start to what I assume will be a trilogy. I’m glad we not only got an intriguing new story, but also some further depth into the life of all of the original characters after the shatter me series.
