Running Blind

Lee Child

3.79 AVERAGE

Yeah, not bad Mr Reacher. Bit of suspense had the popcorn reading moving along at a nice clip. Cheers.

This book annoyed the heck out of me. Was Lee child writing in his sleep? This is not the Jack Reacher I know. He was unsure of himself and he seems to be bamboozled into situations that he would have gotten out of easily in previous books. Also, it was easy to figure out who the killer was and...Uuurgh! I was yelling at the book most of the time. Bring back the self-assured Jack Reacher that we know and love.

I'm a little lukewarm on this one, for several reasons, but nothing that won't spoil it. Feels a little like some of the plot points were a little half-assed, and some obligatory to allow the series to continue.

A lot of things just don't make sense about this book. The motivations of the FBI, Reacher's choices for solving the crime, Reacher doing a complete 180 on his decisions with Jodie from the last book, everyone's arrogance and uncompromising attitude (Reacher in particular)... I could keep going on. The scale of this book is also tiny compared to the previous books.

Was this fun? sure. Would I read the next book? sure. Would I recommend this book? no, but I would half-heartedly recommend the series so far. Is the book memorable? yes, but only because of the many things I disliked about it.

Didn't see that one coming

Let's assume that any Jack Reacher book starts out a solid 4 by default. The narration was awful. Down to 3. The story was kind of annoying. I just didn't like how it flowed and most of the characters were jerks. I have read probably more than 75% of the Reacher books by now, this is the lowest rating I have given. Doesn't impact my overall opinion, it was just dissatisfying.
