Great retelling of book 3. the prose were much better than book 3 also. A truly action packed chain sword wielding meat fest. Well worth a read if you've started the heresy collection.

Another very serviceable 40k (30k? I dunno) novel.

According to internet sages, this is the last of the “must read” Horus Heresy Starter Pack.

It continues the locker room loyalty and tragic outsider themes that have dominated the series since book two. How does a dude do the right thing when all his bros are wrong? Turns out it takes a magic woman and for half his bros to turn into disease ridden zombies… at least. Even then it’s hard.

I think I’m done with this series as there’s (checks notes) 50+ more novels to go. I’ve had a pretty good time. But if this was my only fiction, I’d be going a bit bonkers.

Another in the guilt pleasure saga of wh40k novels ;) And yet another story of dudes in huge armors who are not the brightest ever, but think they are. This one was much better than the previous two books in horus heresy cycle. New protagonist, a different, more personal scale. I enjoyed it. I liked how from time to time the author tries to be self-aware. There was this dialogue of Garro with his ship captain where the captain just says that space marines are like teenagers ;) That was a pretty sweet touch. I already got used to the fact that everything here is super serious and everyone is a strategic mastermind, even though it seems like they are just simple dudes with their simplistic approach to life.
Again 4/5 in the guilty pleasure rating
