Luke, six, has a new imaginary friend named Ivan. His aunt, Elizabeth, with whom he lives, isn't too sure about this new friend. Doing a bit of research, she learns imaginary friends typically run their course in a couple of months. As it turns out Elizabeth may need Ivan more than Luke does, all she needs to do is believe.

If You Could See Me Now takes the reader to an enchanting Irish town that is equal parts charming and confining in this fairytale like story filled with just a little magic. I definitely felt for Elizabeth's character, as the only way she is keeping it together is my controlling everything around her. Ahern has constructed and flushed out the world of imaginative friends in a light hearted and believe way, so much so that you cannot help but root for the characters. I definitely found the story a tad long, but still wanted to know how everything would resolve and the ending was satisfying.

"You could see in her faced that she was willing for everything to be as it once was; I bet she would have done a deal with a devil right then and there if it would have brought him back. She would have gone to hell and back, she would have faced every single one of her fears just for him, right then.
The things we do to go back in time.
The things we don't do the first time around."

"'Life is made up of meetings and partings. People come into you life everyday, you say good morning, you say good evening, some stay for a few minutes, some stay for a few months, some a year, others a whole lifetime. No matter who it is, you meet and then you part. I'm so glad I met you, Elizabeth Egan; I'll thank my lucky stars for that. I think I wished for you all of my life,' he whispered. 'But now it's time for us to part.'"
