Truly amazing, eye opening and so riveting.

There will be a review up on my blog soon x

dark but a great read you cant put down

I've put off writing a review of this for quite some time now because I feel like I really can't even put into words how much talent Emma Donoghue has. Room is a masterpiece. I have used that word so many times in describing this book to so many people, and it's rare that I can even say that about a book. It's a book that is different from all others, and Donoghue's ability to pull off the point of view of a 5 year old blows my mind. This is pure talent. This book makes you feel something, and it is just so so so so beautiful. Everyone needs to read it.

The only reason the book is not a 5 star for me is because there were some times I was legitimately not wanting to read the book because it's like having to hang out with a 5 year old while reading it. It makes the book the masterpiece that it is, so I really don't think it's necessarily fair of me to take away a star for this reason, but I rate books based on entertainment, and sometimes I just was not in the mood to be in the mind of Jack. This book can be so hard to read at times, but pull through because there will be times when you'll feel very sad, but then the book makes you feel VERY very happy in being able to experience Jack's firsts of life with him.

He is a real person I do not care that he is just ink on a page! Poor sweet young Jack.

I have never been through such a harrowing ordeal but he reminded me of me as an autistic kid. The same complicated way of viewing the world. The hyperlexic kid who struggles to be a kid but who knows words better than an adult.

I cried twice reading this. Once
when it was revealed Ma had a miscarriage
and once
when they returned to Room and it was a grotty garden shed
.

All the time he wants the familiar but the familiar was a literal prison so he cannot. The tension between the two.

And ofc on one level, this book is the Plato's cave analogy I live for but that makes me emotional every time!

Took me a bit to understand (knowing the general context from pop culture), but once it started going, I got hooked and finished it! Less sad than I expected
