The book is set in an oppressive werewolf society where the MFC has escaped to a hidden haven that is sadly discovered by the MMC and his crew. Unfortunately, the MFC and MMC are both unlikeable for very different reasons. The MFC is allegedly an alpha who will do anything to save her pack. Except, she makes continuous, selfish decisions that endanger everyone who depends on her. The MMC is a pretentious, misogynist. There is spice and the way the MMC treats the MFC afterwards is reprehensible.

Let me begin by saying I listened to this on audiobook via Libby. I did like it. Stella Hunter is one of my favorite audiobook narrators, and she did a good job. I liked the FMC (Rhea) a lot. In regard to the MMC let me paraphrase Michael Scott from The Office when he said something was a hate crime and someone reminded him the incident wasn't a hate crime. Michael responded "Well, I hated it." That's basically my feelings regarding the Alpha-hole Darius in the book The Hidden Falling. I thought the world building was great in this book, and I really liked all the side characters too.

The issue I have with this book, and any world like this, is the overwhelming since of wrongness and then the complete and utter injustice of it all. The FMC has absolutely no one to protect or advocate for her most of the book, and she is a badass protecting herself and the members of her pack. The Alpha-hole spends like 95% of the book as a smug, self-righteous asshole, and it drives me absolutely crazy. Mostly because his behavior involves him making crazy assumptions that could be cleared up with some simple math or asking further questions. I have started the second book, he is on his grovel tour, but I honestly don't like him. He could destroy her enemies, and I am still going to think she could have done better.

I will say though that I see posts sometimes that are like "I want a TRUE enemy to lovers" and my friends this is that book. The MMC even says horrible things to her after helping her through her heat. I was like "Rhea girl kill him. He sucks."

As far as spice - this is spicy. Darius, the Alpha-hole, is surprise, surprise an excellent lover, and when he is in a good mood a very generous and sensual lover.

If you get into this series (I think you should if you like wolf shifters and a jerk of a MMC who will have a grovel arc) just know the second book deals with (read ahead for a slight spoiler)
some very serious rape topics, thankfully condemns it, and it's really sad what has happened to the FMC at the hands of her own family. < /spoiler>Definitely read the trigger warnings for this one.

I liked this story and these characters from the moment I started it. Now, it is dark, meaning it will definitely shock and make the reader uncomfortable, so that should be expected going into it. But overall, this first book in the series just made me want to pick up the next one immediately.

this was sooo like what. main male character was a horrible person oml and so so stupid

I struggled to keep reading this. I'm glad I didn't give up but really it drug on... Until it didn't but it took forever to get there

I genuinely have no idea how I feel about this book. I like it enough to want to keep going, but I think understanding my feelings about this one will require me to read the other 2.
