It's almost amusing how much people hate Brighton and rate this book bad BECAUSE OF IT? It's not like he's supposed to be a likeable character... well, I actually liked his POV in both books. It's clear that his egomanic-tendencies get unhinged with his new power. I liked that people around him tried to give him a chance tho. Because Brighton HAS his bright (ha) sides. He truly believes that he can do good in this world and he truly wants to save his family and friends. He just has the wrong idea about it. Yes, I agree, his downfall into villainary was fairly predictable but that doesn't make it less heartbreaking. It's like he's trapped in his own mind.
I also liked the plot in this one and thought it a great improvement to the first book (especially with the world building and character development). Though I'm generally not a big fan of love triangles, I was fine with it because Emil really is the greatest character in this whole book.
Also loved the parallels to American politics and animal cruelty. It's a solid book and I'm excited to read the next one!
(I was also excited to hear that the audiobook narration was WAY improved from the first one. Idk how but the voice actors really got their act together!)

My review for Infinity Son docked it a star for having a lot of characters to keep up with and finding it hard to remember what everyone does.
As I started this book, it had a rundown of everyone and what they do and how they are intertwined in a brief sort of index at the beginning. That was super helpful.
This addition to the series was really good. I enjoyed the story and how it is progressing. I also enjoyed the many twists and turns you find out later in the book.
The copy that I read had the short story of Ness at the end (a prequel) which I really loved reading about. I really look forward to seeing where the series goes.

I got very emotionally invested in these characters but I can't keep reading until I know there's an ending
