This was easily the strangest book I have ever read. Previous reviews said it felt like a fever dream. Truly it is beyond wild. I was, however, invested, so I did finish it and was surprised by the plot line/ending.

Was the point to be as repulsive and evil as possible? Is it a cruel irony to have so many trigger warnings in one book?

I do not regret finishing the book, but I cannot say I enjoyed it.

Gross for the sake of being gross.

This book answers the question - what if Saltburn was less interesting and 10x more gross? 🙄

0 stars! this was unmitigated shit

frankly if you liked anything about this book you should be put on a watchlist. this book is full of rape, child rape, cannibalism, incest, and horrific combinations of those things for shock value & shock value only.

page after page of disgusting, depraved, and depressing nonsense with 0 cohesion. no plot or interesting character development to justify the lack of plot. the “magical realism” is just some handwavy vague bullshit. just rape after assault and some people eating thrown in for funsies! idk what the author’s other books are like but this one alone warrants jail time

what an awful fucking read! wouldn’t recommend to a person i hated. the 5 star review people are freaks and i want them investigated

I'm not entirely sure what this book was about, but I enjoyed it. Yes, the book is gory and unpleasant at times, but not unnecessarily so as It's set in unpleasant times (although not quite in our universe as there are magical elements). The masses being kept in poverty by an idiot man-child ruler advised by a self-serving hypocrite could be a story for our time, as it could for pretty much any other time. Power corrupts. The consequences of blind faith. Any of these things could be the message of Lapvona. Whatever the case, I'll miss this grumpy bunch of characters.
