I love the commentary on religion and class. However, this book also comments on things that most books don’t acknowledge and it gets gross. I simply didn’t have the stomach for it, which is not to say that this book is bad. For me it’s a definite 4 stars, but, the open talk of poop, semen, spit, and breast milk..i couldn’t eat and read this.

SPOILERS!!!

I pushed through but i skipped the grape scene because i felt nauseous, and then I made it to Ina eating spiders and later eating another human. I just couldn’t do it 😭.

there’s something about the way the author writes her books that just weird me out and lapvona really accentuated that for me. it feels shocking just for the sake of it being shocking without ever really putting much thought into what exactly it is she’s putting out into the world. it’s also very strange how, in most of her books, the “unlikeable” characters are all evil and unlikable in a very (eerily) sort of way; almost makes me believe she holds some of the same harmful beliefs these characters do. anyway, dnf lapvona because this really does feel like too much for a single book, especially so early on.

Books like this make me wish I'd studied English at university just so I could actually understand what it all means
