Why are these people on a European cruise and decide to stay on the ship the whole time??? Like hello, explore Europe?!?

If you liked [b:Winter in Paradise|31933069|Winter in Paradise (Paradise, #1)|Elin Hilderbrand|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525906229l/31933069._SY75_.jpg|52587998], you'll love this book. The book follows a dysfunctional family that has to spend time together on a 10-day cruise. Charlotte Perkins, 70, won an essay contest to go on a Mediterranean cruise and hopes to bring her children together on the trip.

It took a while for the book to get to the juicy drama and to the point where I wanted to keep reading, but overall it was a fun, easy read. Great for a beach read - or a social-distancing read.

This was...different. It kept me interested. I thought it was well written and the characters were flawed and believable.

Just No

It would be kinder for me to not say anything, so I won't. Let's just say it wasn't for me.

OKAY BUT: the part about Charlotte sleeping with Vincent Van Gogh when she was sixteen? LITERALLY not possible. He died in 1890.

EDIT: I have since found that the author was talking about Pablo Picasso. The fact that I just accepted that the author would allow the Vincent Van Gogh thing to slide is further proof that this book was...not...great.

This was kind of boring and very choppy. Mom goes on vacation with dysfunctional family, issues arise, nothing is resolved.

I wanted to like this, but I ended up not liking it at all. The writing is stilted and repetitive, I found the characters inconsistent along the book as well as intensely shallow and irredeemably garbage, the ending was incredibly disjointed, and seriously, every single plot point was laid out in cryptic, but repeated instances. They keep talking about how
SpoilerReagan's husband is a monster...but then it seems like his crime is falling in love with a single mom? Cheating is Bad, but it's not Monster level terrible, I was expecting him to be a murderer or a pedo based on the way the siblings keep talking around his transgressions.
anyway, glad this one came from the library!

This is a book that beautifully highlights the complex nature of family once the children are grown. Each of the characters has their own realistic struggles, and I loved picturing all of the European coastlines that were visited. If anything, I found that the book ended too quickly. I would have loved to see the characters find some resolution with themselves and each other and find out where their journeys took them after the cruise. It’s a quick and easy read, perfect for a day in the sun!

I was so excited when I received this book to review. The author does a great job exploring some darker topics but in a way that still feels light and didn't bring me down in a time where there is a lot of down topics. It was filled with humorous and touching moments which is exactly what I wanted when I read this. The exploration of each family member is done well, you really get a sense of who they are and what their struggles are.

* I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

It was very sad and the characters led such sad lives. Charlotte seemed to come to terms with her life and found love , but I felt the others did not.
