I assumed this was a series and was excited to see other members of the crew get with aliens as well (and Jason Lahey who is "lost"? Come on that's perfect for a sequel!). Still fun tho 😁

This started out making me roll my eyes a lot but overall was a rather pleasant surprise.
The whole "no women here" was... super weird, and I still don't get it. Yes, it's a mining operation, and the jobs are male dominated but ??? there's still no reason why there wouldn't be a single woman participating.
It's definitely still a romance/erotica, with insta love and mating and alien a/b/o dynamics that spring over to the human colonists. What I enjoyed was the way the humans (or at least the science team) handled it - lots of talk about not just being trans, but also intersex, not just once but at several occasions that weren't always related. Also a lot of acknowledgements towards different gender expressions, and a ton of inclusive language around genitalia. That was such a breath of fresh air from this genre.
What I also liked was the way the not entirely voluntary public sex was handled in the science context. It was hilarious, and ultimately the characters were okay with it.
The one thing I wish hadn't been as it was were the several side plots that were established and hinted at, just to then be completely forgotten in favor of sex scenes. I assume this was done to set up for sequels, but there doesn't seem to be one in sight at this point (read this in November 2020 and this book was published June 2018). The protagonist's story seems to be done, but I would love some closure for several side characters.
Content warnings include: sex on-page, (not entirely voluntary) voyeurism and exhibitionism, violence and gore, alien omegaverse setting featuring mpreg.

I recently read the PYKH series by Eileen Glass so I was in the mood for some more alien/ human m/m. This showed up as a suggestion on my Kindle and so after reading the blurb I gave it a go. This was actually a pretty cute read as far the romance goes. There is a language barrier for most of the book so human Cameron and purple alien Tal'jen start off with gestures and body language as their main source of communication. Thankfully this is dual POV so we do get to know the real interpretations of each MC and whether or not they are getting it right. You never know, as Cameron explains, you could end up offering yourself up for dinner ( and not the good kind) if you aren't careful.
As I said, the romance was cute with no bad drama between the two. The drama comes in the form of an outside source, the actual planet. We are never told why, but apparently once you spend some time on Omega IV you will eventually "present" as either what I interpreted as an alpha or omega. An omega can bear young, an alpha cannot. Most of the people on the planet are miners - meaning gruff, masculine, "manly" men so you can see how this change would go over with them.
There is an epilogue which is funny and cute. We are also left with the ability for the author to write more in this series with other side characters. I wouldn't mind a story about Daniel, Cameron's boss, or Tal'jen best friend whom I am not even going to attempt to remember the correct spelling of his name. I would happily see the two of them as a couple if so inclined. I liked this book, I just wasn't in love with it so I'd rate it about 3.5 stars

I actually really enjoyed this one. It's light, fluffy, and don't expect the science to make sense, but it's quite enjoyable.

It’s cute, fluffy, and hilarious. I believe this exactly how a group of dudes would react in this situation.
