Fake it till you make it

Not my favourite, but still a good read. Alex is Ben's new secretary and has finly managed to organise him. Dorian is hiding out at Crofton Hall after 'coming out' in a spectacularly unrehearsed interview for his new movie. Fake dating is the trope for this instalment of the series with big dollops of Ben still being clueless and Robin over compensating. Overall a good fun read

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 6 in the Modern Crofton series, and really, it shouldn't be read as a stand alone book. You should at the very least, read Starting Again at Crofton Hall, to get a better idea of just what Robin leaving Dorian does to him, and what Dorian does in that book. It's not fully recapped here. And because Ben and Ashley play a HUGE part here, you should probably read ALL the books, to see just what they have gone through to get to this point. So, yeah, not a stand alone!

Ben and Ashley are dealing with a new baby and all that entails. And that's all I'm going to say about those two.

Dorian runs to Crofton Hall, to hide away after coming out in spectacular fashion. Doing something stupid in New York with Ben and Robin though, causes some issues for Robin and Dorian decides he needs a fake boyfrind for a short time. Enter Alex, Ben's new secretary. Alex says no at first, but after a visit to his parents, he changes his mind. Just gotta keep it all above board and within clear boundaries, right? No feelings at all involved. Piece of cake.

Not so much, as it turns out! Alex discovers that Dorian Forbes, the man, is a very different man to Dorian Marsten, the Hollywood blockbuster star! Very quickly they realise that they don't want this to end, but neither can admit to the other.

The issues Dorian causes for Robin and Simon are massive. Robin needs to get his head in the game, and make sure he does right by Simon. Leaving for the better part of the year was not a great start! But I loved that, even though Simon is with Robin, Dorian and Simon become somewhat friendly.

Ben, Ashley, Dorian and Alex have the voices here. But becuase of all the stuff going on with Robin and Simon, and I wanted to hear from them. However, I am reliably informed that Simon and Robin get the next book, and then some more after! So, I will hold my horses and wait for that book, hopefully I will get it all!

It's not especially explicit. Indeed, its not till very near the end that Dorian and Alex do anything other than kiss, and I love being made to wait! LOVED that. Ben and Ashley get some smexy times, but they are less smexy and much more lovey, since they've been a couple for some years.

Lots of drama! Lots and lots, all over the place, but mostly around Robin and Simon and what happens between those two.

Loved catching up with the other guys in the series. It's always great to do that, but especially so here.

I really MUST make some time to read the original Crofton Hall series, the more I read THESE books, the more I want to read THOSE!

5 full and shiny stars

This book is a great addition to the series. You definitely want to read the other books first though.

It's finally time for Dorian to get himself in order AND get his HEA and where better to do so, than at Crofton Hall, where we can catch up with the rest of the cast of characters and see how Ben and Ashley are taking to parenthood...

Dorian certainly makes a splash with his coming out... and it ripples all the way to Crofton Hall! As with the other books in this series, Rebecca Cohen weaves the story of all of the residents of the Hall with a developing love story and this time it's between the newly hired Alex and Dorian, who has come to the hall to figure out his next steps after coming out AND deciding to change the course of his career...

I absolutely adore the way this author gives us a glimpse into the whole Crofton world and balances the new relationship with those the came before and are still ongoing... I love the way she writes Ashley's struggle with being the primary parent of a newborn and reconciling his own wants and desires with those of his child... watching Ben try to creatively parent and take the stress off Ashley, while still handling a full slate of duties to the estate and his earldom...

It's such a treat to revisit Compton Hall, especially knowing we get another their forever person! I don't recommend reading this book as standalone, but you could if you really wanted to....
