In the volume so far i read the gothtopia part of this so that's what i ll talk about.
Layman have come up with an original great story this time and i love it.
Jonathan crane seems to have changed the memories and perspectives of every single person in gotham he even made sionis a police commissioner, and cobblepot city mayor, catwoman is catbird now and is like the new robin, its really interesting, i initially thought maybe this is an alternate reality gotham but it isn't, we are in the real world.
So we are back to this first side story is a retelling of one of the original stories of batman, Metzler did a great job turning this into a really nice origin story and possibly a joker origin story as well.
second side story didnt like it, but its old school story where the villains even break the 4th wall and say that they can hear what the heroes want to do how they can avoid it, and yes the heroes in the old school comics talked strategy outloud and no one heard them for some reason lol, also the villains mentioning they can read the thought bubbles on top of batman head, but in the end its just a nightmare the batman has xD.
3rd side story, is so sweet i love it Bruce's 75th birthday, damian is the new batman, barbara is the new commissioner, and he rushes to do one last run as batman despite old age, and an aching injured body, happy 75th birthday detective Comics and a very happy 75th detective Comics birthday to us batman lovers.
4th story now i dont think i understood this story, batman saves a boy and his mother from a car crash and she says thanks for saving him again!, is the boy like someone in real life that considers reading batman saved him from a tough period in life or presents all readers who view batman this way, or something else, i don't know.
5th i teared up on the last page of this story, phantom stranger if i remember correctly from the magic portion of dc, batman crying out again same as he did in his childhood after he saw his parents survive but had to let them go because the world is pretty much ruined without their sacrfice and him sacrficing his life to fight these criminals.
6th and last side story in this gigantic issue, batman clones himself, so that he can continue fighting crime and there has been 10 generations of batmen already, the joker still there it seems, what if the joker is really immortal, that would be really sick if they make that part of who he is, make it happen DC.

The Scott Snyder story "Twenty-seven" is worth the price of admission. Not so much because of the writing, the art does most of the heavy lifting on conveying the story. but Matt Hollingsworth's colors are what really shines here. It would make Lynn Varley proud!
