Definitely went into this expecting more.  While I almost DNF’d it at 9% I kept going.  It was nearly identical to the movie only a few parts changed but ultimately it was an okay book.  I think I would have liked it more when I was a teenager rather than now but in the end I listened to the audiobook (in x3) in one go of it while I cleaned my house so it kept me busy entertained enough.

This book is really good. My sister kept telling me to read this series for forever since it’s one of her favorites. It just happened that we read it in ELA class this year. My favorite part was the time in the arena. Especially Rue and Katniss’s relationship. The fight scenes were very in depth and helped me imagine them well. Overall this book is very well written and I urge everyone to read it.

I don't know if I'm giving this book 5 stars because I just finished reading it and I'm pumped but I genuinely cannot thing of a single thing that I did not like. I am kind of sad that I watched the movie first because I knew what was coming. Reading this book without knowing anything about it would've been a great experience.

Basically... I understand the hype. And I want to emphasize that I don't expect a lot from young adult books anymore. At this point I just read them as palette cleansers but wow, this book really showed me that I have to be more selective because the young adult books I've been reading are trash compared to this one.

The characters are very lovable and when I say characters I pretty much mean Peeta. I get the hype, they got me again... I think I really like that this book is not narrated from his perspective because not knowing his intentions makes his character a hundred times more interesting and intriguing. He gives me a slice of bread and I am kept wondering if he's manipulating me into thinking that he's nice to get me to be his friend or if he's actually nice. I'm still not sure but he got me, I do want to be his friend.

At the end of the book I was really surprised that Peeta actually thought all this romance was a thing. C'mon, you're smarter than that! That actually did make me feel bad. But at the same time, we can't even blame Katniss because she just wants to go home. I really can't blame anyone:( I guess he IS a Loverboy after all. Or maybe he isn't? I'm not sure but I think I'm leaning towards "yes."

The Hunger Games is an enjoyable series and the first book was better than I expected it to be. While the beginning of the book started at a slower pace, the plot intrigued me.

A very realistic view of how our world could be, the Hunger Games depicts the twisted and cruel nature of people in power and wealth. Katniss' character grew on me. In the beginning, she came across as a very brooding and dry person, but through the challenges of the Games, her intelligence and resourcefulness became very apparent. As well as this, her relationship with Peeta was sweet and sincere; I loved seeing them together!

Overall, there was tension and drama galore in this book. I grew to love the characters and rooted for them throughout their challenges. The plot was interesting and well-paced, and I was eager to get ahold of the next books in the series once I finished it.
