'The Hunger games' is one of, if not the best young adult series to be written. The Hunger Games establishes a lived-in world bustling with rich characters (both side and main) that each have unique traits that reflect where in this world they were raised. None of the characters are simple and one-note. It has been amazing to re-read this series and see how well it has withstood the test of time; while other YA series aren't as enjoyable, The Hunger Games seems to have aged like a fine wine!

I know it's hard to believe, but this was my first time reading The Hunger Games. After one of my students found out I had never read the books or watched the films, she immediately started badgering me to read them. I finally got the audiobook through Libby and was immediately sucked into the story. I knew that the Hunger Games were amazing but I don't think I had grasped just how amazing they were.

Being inside Katniss's head throughout, watching her reluctantly becoming a player in the fatal hunger games, and watching her puzzle her way through everything and everyone was such an interesting thing to see. I found myself doubting everything with her.

I do think that the way celebrity is forced onto these young children is quite similar to what we see in the real world of influencers (especially influencer parents who force their children into the spotlight). Nothing is genuine and everything is meticulously tailored to cause scandal and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. I have no doubt that if the Hunger Games were a real thing, people would be watching eagerly on TV (or their phones) and placing bets.

I already have Catching Fire on hold at the library and can't wait to start listening to it!

Oh my god! This story was compelling, I couldn't stop reading it. There was something intense and appealing about a game and fake dating. These two combined were a treat. I liked that Katniss was badass and Peeta was the softie between the two. The game itself was cruel as fuck, horrible! And Rue, oh god, her death broke me. I watched the movies years ago but reading it felt different, the emotions I had for the story heightened. The themes were serious but executed great. Wow, Suzanne, now I need the rest of the series. Thanks to you, the audiobook narrator, the story flew across the pages.❤️

I don't know why I didn't read the book earlier. It's beautifully written and honestly just perfect. Even though I already knew the plot due to watching the movies I was on my toes reading it and was intrigued by the thoughts of the characters because that's something difficult to pick up in the movies. I really came to love Katniss even though I didn't really like her that much in the movies. I would have loved to have read the serie as a teenager but even as an adult it's one of the best books I've read in a long time.
