it really is sooooo crazy how popular this pro-revolution anti-fascist YA series became isn’t it. it’s literally so radical and we just don’t acknowledge it because our society simply can’t handle it. and like. did suzanne collins even mean to write the most politically radical piece of mass media of the 21st century? i don’t know that she didn’t but somehow it feels hard to believe that she did.

and yeah it really all does hit different in 2024 doesn’t it.

ok but as for this book. when i first read it in eighth grade all i cared about was katniss/peeta. engrained from twilight i suppose but it makes me cringe to consider. the last time i tried to read it a few years ago i couldn’t make it very far in because the simplistic first person POV writing was soooo grating to me. and well it still is but after powering through a little longer the truly excellent story takes precedence and saves the day. wish a good writer wrote it though still, sorry suzanne!

This is the second time I'm reading this book. The first time was when I was in middle school, right before the movie came out. Now that I'm older (has it really been 12 years?) I appreciate a lot more of the details and nuances, and how overall extremely well written it is. I was waiting to get to certain plot points and was still excited to read them.

I have watched the hunger games movies for years and even consider them some of my favorite movies, but have never took the time to read the books. I am SO happy I have finally taken the time because the way Suzanne Collins wrote this story is so amazing. Even while I knew what was going to happen the way she wrote it was so enticing. I loved every second of this book and cannot wait to read the other two. Also Peeta Mellark has my whole heart, I LOVE HIM!!

This series is the seed of dystopian books.
I have watched the trilogy (movies) and they are a masterpiece. First time reading the books. And I loved everything about it. Probably easier for me to visualize the world because I watched the movies before.
And that ending… so angsty!! Spoiler ahead!!!
Never will I ever be a Gale apologist. And reading Katniss being conflicted with her feelings for both Gale and Peeta is confusing and kinda stressful.
