Writing was beautiful, however - Tandi’s character development was not it for me:
- She doesn’t leave douche bag Ross - who not only treats her like crap, but treats her kids like crap - until he sleeps with her sister. Like that was the last straw for you, not him being horrible to your kids?
- I wish her ending didn’t have to be with a guy. It seems like one of her main problems was not being able to stay single - and never focusing on herself or her children. In my opinion, her character growth would’ve been more profound if she stayed single and spent some time bettering herself outside of a man.
- Her just seemingly become an amazing mother over night, and then acting clueless why her kids don’t want anything to do with her.

Tandi is a tragic character right from the start, she escaped a bad relationship and has ended up in another without realizing it. She is stressed trying to raise two kids and running from her past. Through letters to God, Tandi ends up learning about her deceased neighbor that helps her change her life.
There were many many moments where I wanted to knock this character upside her head! She just had no sense and I just wanted her to realize that she was repeating her mistakes, it took a lot of time for me to grow to even like her. I loved the setting for the book, the town and its people were awesome. I wouldn't mind listening to more of their back stories and learning more about the history of the town and maybe less of Tandi's issues.

A beautiful story of rebirth and divine appointments, of family and solitude, and above all love.
My only complaints are that, while this story isn't a romance I found it annoying that there was a romance during the time skip before the epilogue. I feel that the reader was cheated by skipping over it entirely. Also, it would have been nice to transition from starting to pray to making either a faith commitment or a recommitment. (We actually don't hear a lot about the main character's faith journey.)

This book is a good story that proves that your life can make a difference in the lives of others and even a community.

Predictable, but cozy uplifting story. Very simple, I don't think it is great writing. All points go for the uplifting aspect of it.

The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate was an amazing book with a powerful story of transformation.
What I liked: I appreciate that the book was not a romance novel but instead had a very minor story of love between two unlikely people. I also liked the twist at the ending. I can normally see “plot twists” from a mile away but when I got to this one I literally gasped and threw my hand to my mouth. Very well done.
My only complaint: we never truly saw Tandi be saved/become a Christian. We know she prayed and believed in God but we never SAW her realize that Jesus died for her sins and she is wiped clean by His blood. Her salvation is implied rather than shown with detail. Also, my second only complaint (lol) is that I kept waiting to be filled in on more of who Trammel was and what Tandi’s “accident” was… but it never happened. I would have liked to know a little more details of Tandi’s past but I also kinda of like that I can create a past for her myself. The details that were left out of the book allows the reader to use their imagination to aid in the development of the story.
Overall, this was a great book that I would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful story to read in a cozy chair with tea in hand. I am giving the Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate 4 stars. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, the Tidewater Sisters, then hop back in time and read the book before this one, the Sea Glass Sisters.
God bless,
Kaya :)

A book club read: November 2020.
This had a bit of a slow start, but I did enjoy the book in its entirety. I loved how Tandi grew through Iola's journey with the Lord. What a sweet picture of how the faithfulness of others can help strengthen our walk with the Lord. Often time we ask Him for his direct intervention, when His plan is to use others to help us along the way.
