Ah, body snatching. Love it! There's something genuinely eerie and threatening about the seeds, pods, and duplicates. On film anyway. The book has its charm and its moments, but for some reason I was never really completely into it. Figured I would enjoy it a bit more, like I did the 1956 movie. The 1978 version is still my favorite body snatching experience. Never ever will I forget Donald Sutherland's facial expression when he points the finger. That scene gave little me a few sleepless nights.

some good sci-fi spookiness but let down by its disappointingly cheerful ending

It was ok... a fun little read. None of the science seems remotely sound but it was a fun way to pass a couple afternoons. A little sexist but I think that goes with the time period in which it was written and even the characters are able to admit their lack of expectations for the "weaker sex" in one scene. But only in one scene.
I would recommend it for someone wanting a quick little read purely for entertainment.
