Reread/Relisten #1: October 2023

Major slump happening right now, so I am going back to favorites to get me out of it. This one is definitely worth the read, you don't have to read book 1 to enjoy this one to the fullest.

Original Read/Listen: June 2023
Audio: 5 stars, Gary Furlong is one of my favorites
Book: 4.5-5 stars

Something about this book was laced with crack because I couldn’t put it down. I felt the emotions from the characters and loved seeing their relationship grow.

What a difference from book one, this one was by far superior. You don’t even have to read book one to enjoy this, they can be read as standalones!

Gary Furlong did an outstanding job narrating, he made this book that much more enjoyable!

Wow I just loved this book and I can’t get over it haha

This is a lovely and emotional book. Deaf MC Tadhg is rebuilding his life after an emotionally abusive relationship. Quinn is splitting himself in two trying to be his own man and everywhere at once for his siblings. They have almost instant chemistry, but have work, language, and family hurdles to overcome for their HEA.

Gary Furlong’s narration pushes this book higher in my ratings. When he hits the emotional bits, I nearly broke down while I was driving. He sounded destroyed, and I’m here for it. Don’t even get me started on the spicy bits. Totally check this audiobook out!

Some very convenient plot development but overall I enjoyed the book, especially the two cinnamon roll MCs.
With the audiobook it was at times difficult to understand whose chapter it was, and I often had to check whose POV it was as there was no difference in the narration between the characters.

This was such a sweet read with some angst and a hard earned HEA!

I really enjoyed reading about Tadhg and Quinn - it was an interesting and captivating story. The characters felt real and genuine to me, I liked the build up and how Tadhg struggled to trust Quinn after the breakup his abusive ex, the slow burn really works well here mixed with the hurt / comfort.

The plot was pretty straight forward and there’s some angst, both within the relationship and from external sources. I wouldn’t call it a low angst story, but I guess that might differ from person to person. At times I just felt like the story was a bit overworked and some characters stopped feeling like real persons and almost just became their negative traits. I guess it served purpose for the plot but it was a bit over the top for me.

I loved the premise of the book and the main characters, but I had some issues with the plot and the misunderstandings and miscommunications between the characters got a bit too much in the end. There was quite a few things happening and I think it might have been better to focus on fewer things when it comes to the plot.

This was the first book I read by the author and I’m definitely curious about their works, there was some interesting side characters in “Embrace Me” that I hope will get their own stories.

I really enjoyed this book, it is always good to read about someone who is not "perfect" and has some type of disability but works through it. This book is well written with great characters and a wonderful storyline. Can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

Tadhg returns home to Seattle after a nasty breakup with his manipulative ex. He’s determined to fully focus on his career from now on, but his co-worker Quinn throws a spanner in the works. Sparks fly from the moment they meet and they soon become friends. Their friendship turns into a beautiful romance, but their relationship is not without its struggles. First of all, the fact that Quinn is hearing and Tadhg is Deaf makes it difficult for them to communicate. Secondly, Quinn has a tendency of dropping everything for his family, which is amazing, unless you’re counting on him. Probably their biggest issue, however, is Tadhg’s ex, who’s still stalking him and keeps filling his head with reasons why a relationship between someone who’s Deaf and someone who’s hearing is bound to fail.

I really liked this story. I could tell it was based on a lot of research, and it gave a lot of insight into the world of a Deaf person. It showed not only their struggles, but it also reminded me they are perfectly capable of sticking up for themselves. I especially liked that about Tadhg. He came across as a very kind and lovely person, but he was also not afraid to stand up for himself and wouldn’t let anyone look down on him for being Deaf.
What I liked most about Quinn was probably his kind heart. He’s a little too good for this world (no, the world isn’t good enough for him), and I think it’s great how he didn’t even think twice before deciding to (re)learn ASL and do everything in his power to make Tadhg comfortable around his friends and family. Unfortunately, his goodness had a downside, because people could easily take advantage of it. This (and more) resulted in some dramatic behaviour from both men, but I think they worked through everything in a very nice and believable way.

I can’t wait to read the third book in the series!
