Reading this series growing up, I really hated Mockingjay and thought it ruined the whole series. As an adult, knowing who dies and where the story goes, having experienced trauma of my own, i was able to appreciate it for how masterful it is. She describes trauma and PTSD so incredibly accurately, the types of decisions that are made and the person Katniss becomes show so many nuanced and incredibly profound experiences. Honestly, i kind of hated it a bit because of how real the trauma felt. But it’s also what makes this book incredible. This is a series you can reread 100 times and always find new meaning and understanding in.

Tatiana Maslaney is an INCREDIBLE narrator

I think I can confidently say that Dystopian is just isn't for me. I wanted to finish reading this series because I wanted to know what happened.

I had a major revelation while reading this book. I no longer enjoy reading morally grey MCs. I've changed a lot since a few years ago. Not as much as I did before. I'm a little disappointed because I genuinely do think that morally grey characters are important and bring critical complexity that non-morally grey characters just lack. However, I've found that for present me, reading from the POVs of morally grey characters just exhaust and bore me. I really hope I'm mistaken but change happens.

I think the pacing also demotivated me. The ending was not bad at all though.

I feel like I vibed with this one less than the other two but still a worthy entry. The last line goes so hard.

Collins writes Katniss’ character to be a true representation of not only a teenager with adult level expectations but also a teenager with a lot of past & current trauma. Katniss’ choices and thought process are purposefully frustrating and sometimes confusing because of this. Yet, she also is someone you’re still rooting for. The plot itself makes sense but isn’t completely expected. Collins pushed you to realize quickly how complicated revolution and change is, but it doesn’t make you I want it less.
