This book gives Supernatural vibes and it’s amazing!! Also, I LIVE for these lesbians fighting spooky crime and you know I can’t resist a novel based in my CITY! It’s such a short and exciting read. The ending was bittersweet but heartwarming at the same time! The one down fall for me was that I felt like there was too much talk about christianity for my liking. I was questioning whether or not the author was writing out of religious trauma or trying to convert me but that’s probably me projecting

This was such a wonderful little novella! It really blew me away, being nothing like I expected, but I loved it even more for it. 1930s lesbians, a supernatural noir setting, discussions of gender norms and limitations, themes of sacrifice and perceived vs actual goodness, and how love makes it all worth it in the end — I ate it all up. I adored the main romantic relationship, Helen and Edith made me feel the fuzzy warmth of my own relationship, and I especially enjoyed that it was already established before the story begins. The sibling relationship Helen has with Ted was also so wonderful, I loved the genuine care they have for each other and how it develops. My only note is that I want more, so crossing my fingers for a sequel/companion novella. Everything in here just made me want to sink my teeth in deeper, and I will definitely pick up a physical copy so I can annotate it.

I already knew I enjoyed C. L. Polk, but they might be auto-read author from here on out.
