I wrote a complete review of this work only to erase it by accident...

*Great read
*why is the author using a pseudonym?
*why do the books not go in order?
*why did i choose to read this novel when I knew a second book had not been published?!?

Back then, I shipped Four and Six.

Now, I ship Four with himself.

I wish I felt better about this book than I did, but honestly I'm happy to be able to check it off my list and move on. The story wasn't extraordinarily original, the characters were rather run of the mill and the writing left something to be desired. A few of the action sequences were well done and I got caught up in the moment, but the final battle scene seemed to drag on forever with everything being predictable and the villains all being creatures we've never seen before this moment. One of the big revelations at the end was so obvious, you just felt silly for John that he didn't figure it out way earlier. I'm going to have a hard time convincing myself to read the next book in the series. I do hope the movie is better.

Couldn't finish this one. The author is just not good--the idea for the story is great, but the writing was awkward and boring.

I actually didn't finish this book.
I usually have a rule set for myself about not finishing books... I just feel I HAVE to finish books! I told my teacher this the other day and he said that it was pointless doing it because life is too short. So I went home, took the bookmark out of the book and gave it back to my sister.
I was only 4 or 5 chapters away from finishing the book, but I realized my teacher was right. If I didn't want to know how the book ended, what was the point in reading it?
Anyway, to the book. The idea was good. It was poorly written. The movie was way WAY better than the book. That, I have never said. Ever.
Overall, no I don't recommend this book to anyone.

Mini Review:
I heard a lot of people talk about this book, which peeked my interest. When I received it as a gift, I was really excited to hop on that band-wagon, and know what it is all about.
This is the story of "John" aka "Number Four," and his Cepan (or mentor) Henri. Both are from a planet called Lorien and came to earth 10 years ago, when their home planet was attacked by other aliens called Mogadorians. John is part of an elite group of nine kids who were sent to earth to defeat the Mogadorians (who are now attacking our planet for its resources), and to return home. The nine Lorien aliens have superpowers that humans can only dream of (control elements, talk to animals, invisibility, etc.), and they develop more and more "legacies" as time goes on. All of them are becoming stronger, so the Mogadorians want to kill them. The thing is, they can only be killed in numerical order (there are a few exceptions to that rule, but generally speaking). Numbers One, Two, and Three are dead. It is now John's turn...

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book and I definitely want to continue on with the series. I really loved the setting and the descriptions. It was the sort of book, where the world is so well described, that it felt more like climbing into the story, than just reading about it.
I really enjoyed the pacing and the development of the story. There was just the right amount of background story on the aliens and the legacies: I understood it all, and it didn't drag on.
I enjoyed all the characters, especially Henri, Bernie Kosar (the cute dog), Sam, and John. I was not annoyed by the main character at all (it tends to only happen when the main character is a girl...). He made good decisions, and was never rash about anything. He even waited a bit too long at one point in the story.
The ONLY thing that was a little bit "annoying" was the insta-love. I know that on Lorien love is different: when you find your "mate" you truly fall in love forever. So it is okay that John was completely blown away by Sarah, but the opposite? Not so sure. It was not an overly cheesy romance, it just happened a tad bit too fast.
I will definitely pick up the sequel.

I made a major mistake that only a reader can do because I watched the movie two months ago before reading the book so I got spoiled. I'm such an idiot! The movie was surprisingly almost the same as the book though there are some changes (which the directors couldn't help but do) it was still better compared to the movie adaptation of Percy Jackson.

While reading the chapter 8 I was like "Pittacus Lore? Isn't that the author? Hahahaha good job of including his pseudonym on his book" It was like reading uncle Rick's work though much less humor and sarcasm. As we all know Rick Riordan used to say that the novels that he was writing were sent to him by the demigods and that's the case in this book, only the author was the leader himself. I didn't get to enjoy the book that much, not because it was bad but because I got spoiled and already knew what would happen next. There are some differences like the Henri in this book was a loving and a caring man while the Henri in the movie was a really serious lad. The book as usual was better than the movie. I couldn't wait to read the second book in which I wasn't spoiled yet (and hopefully it will stay that way)

I got a little bit teary eyed on Chapter 33, the poor beast. Mogadorians deserved what it did to them.

i liked the plot, but not a fan of the action (i never am). normally in these sort of books the romance balances it out, but the romance is extremely underdeveloped in this book. also the writing just felt stilted at times and the story didn't flow as it is should.

I'd give this start to the Lorien Legacies a solid 4.5. Really enjoyed the storyline and found myself not wanting to put this book down (which in my mind is a great indication of how good a book really is!)

The only aspects that I wasn't so keen on are as follows:
~The arrival of Number Six seemed a little to fortuitous and abrupt. Just the perfect plot device to further the story?
~The relationship between John and Sara seemed a little too perfect. Are you telling me she had no doubts when he told her he was from a different planet?
~All the other humans from Paradise who find out the truth about Henri and John are just a little too trusting. They, too, had no doubts and didn't think they were crazy?

Still, extremely enjoyable and I cannot wait to see the movie when it releases!
