All around this is a really impactful story based on the true events in Ontario Canada. It’s heartbreaking to hear the realities that we see in British Columbia exist nationwide. The writing was beautiful and captivating!

it is absolutely horrifying how indigenous people have been treated throughout history but this book was especially eye opening to the modern tragedies that have occurred in the last century and continue to this day. from the horror of residential schools, that we still don’t even have the full scope on, to the ignoring of missing and murdered indigenous children that happens everyday there is so much that needs to be healed. we must fight to gain equity for these communities so that the trauma of this constant mourning does not continue to plague generations. may the seven fallen feathers rest in peace. land back.

An important account of both the historical and current systemic oppression Indigenous people face in Toronto and Canada overall.
Seeing how systems (and therefore many people who operate in those systems) fail repeatedly to protect children’s lives and too often intentionally make them more vulnerable or unsafe is heartbreaking. This isn’t a case of one or two “bad apples”, so many are complicit in the continued dehumanization of Indigenous communities.
A must read.

This is a book that should be read by EVERYONE. The injustices that happened and continue to happen to the Indigenous people of this country are shameful and absolutely appalling. I listened to the book this time around but I've also purchased it because I want to read, take notes and digest it. This is no easy read, this book tells hard facts of what's going on and we should take note and learn something. Ms. Talaga was a journalist with the Toronto Star for over 20 years and her years of experience is evident in her writing. Highly recommended reading with tissues close at hand.
