There is much to say about this book. It’s the longest book I’ve ever read and I simply don’t have the words to express how deeply this book affected me at times.

This book is an achievement. First to the author for weaving complex histories together and second to me cause I read 790 pages. It’s hard to quantify this book into small pieces. It brings so many elements together that is spoken about academically, but in beautiful prose. It expands the viewpoint of American slavery and shows how messy our relations truly are. As a descendent of enslaved peoples, I felt that this honoured them and reminded us to keep keeping on.
